iu^ valid without the .-ignature of the
commission; second, that tho Mayor and
Chairman of the 1’.nance Committee
jouid be allowed to remain members of
i..- CommisS.on, anl tt.ir.:, that th':.-
was ambiguity in regard to the ratu of
taxation.
Mr. J. M. Jones urged a further ob
jection that no provision was madi ft"
too interest on tho annuity bonds.
Colonel Fort spoke in regard to the
Msyor and Chairman of the Committee
being members of tho Commission. He
favored it in the interest of harmony,
and thongbt it wonld be better to yield
tho point than to allow the whole scheme
io be defeated.
A letter from Hon. A. O. Bacon to Mr
felix Corpnt was read. It criticised
sharply tho patsago of a set of resolu
tions by Connell declining to make fmthtT
concessions. It was spread on Ibe inm
ates.
Tho amendment proposed by Mr-
Jones in regard to providing for thorn
torcst on annuity bonds was endorsed,
and tho Bonio of the meeting was that it
should be incorporated in the bill.
Mr. Jowettmwed that it w.te the Bense

Colonel H. H. Jonce roso to rnako a fen
remark?, when Mr. W. C. Wilaon raised
tho point that ho wan not a resident of
tho city. Tho objection was unanimou=lj
overruled. Colonel Jones said ho epoke
for tho pood of tho city alone. That the
power of tho present Mayor and Council
would pass away, but that tho Comrois
sion lasted thirty years, and tho Mayor
and Cominittoemm would act as a check
and coma directly from tho people every
t wo years.
Tho three points wero taken np seria
tim, nod the motion to make the changes
carried unanimously. The following
committee was appointed to go to At
lanta in tho interest of the opposition to
tho presont bill:

Jones was substituted for Mr. Hunt,
who could not go, and subsequently
General W. S. Holt, J. H. Campbell
und li. E. Fork, were added to the Com

The Committee agreed to leave for At

After tho threo points bad been

Yesterday In consequence of the very
heavy rains the river rose very rapidly

feet of the oentenninl freshet m irk, which
is the highest reached in thirty-five year.'
