About half-past seven ia tho evening

Ga.; Phillip M. would compare mine with his, especially
as to certain parts of it which were

appointed to go to Atlanta should us ■

the pending bill or failing to have them

THE REKIWETBIR TKAGEDY.
Tlie Killing of J*r. J. K. Key
Ttie reperts of the killing of Mr. J. K.
Reynolds by Mr, Warren P. Lovett
proved yesterday to be true. The killing
occurred in Meriwether county, eon.
thirty mii. - from Griffin. The distance
from railroad or telegraphic communica
tion delayed the positive news of tho
ooonrrenoe. The killing occurred
Sunday afternoon last.
So many and conflicting are tho rn
mors that it is impossible at preeen
to learn the troth in the casr
The generally accepted facte are that
hos i meeting took place between Mr
Lovett end Mr. R.-ynolds at a place near
the plan’ation of Mr. Byrd Lnve t,
brother of tbe other. Mr. Wallace
Trammell and Mr. J. E. Thorne were ao
oompanyiog Mr. Lovett, riding in the
-ame baggy with him. Mr. Lovett fired
the fatal shot, the ball lodging in Roy
nolda’ aide eud producing death in a few
henrs.
One version of tbe killing is that Mr
Lovett demanded cf Reynolds an apology
for a report be had circnlated, Reynolds
refused. Lovett then got out of hiv
buggy. Reynolds shot first, and Lovett
returned the fire with the above ctated
result.
Another version, which we give as ru
mor, is that there bad been a report
damaging to Mr. Lovett’s character cir
culatedbyMr. Rvynolds, and that Mr,
Lovett, ao v impaaied by his two friendv
went into the country from Griffia to set
tle the matter up.
Toey mrt Mr. Reynolds on tho road
and demand-d a retraction, which wav re
fn-ed. Mr. Lovett then shot him, and
onejof the party fired two chambers of hiv
pistol, and laid the weapon by tho side of
the unoonsoioue man. It is also reported
that tbe dead man made a dying state
ment corroborating tbe above motor.
A special from Griffin received at this
office list night states that Lovett has
been arrested. His preliminary trial
was commenced at Sandtown yesterday,
but wav discontinued for tbe reason that
the Superior Court court convenes in two
weeks and counsel for the prosecution
submitted a proposition to wait until
than which was accepted by Mr. Lovett’e
attorney. Lovett wav then admitted to
bail for hie appearance at the next term
of tho Superior Conrt in a bond of $500,
He arrived in Griffin yesterday after,
noon. The email bond indicates that
there must have keen some extenuating
circumstances.

A splendid section of country wa9 ac

each. Ibis territory was called at the
time of its settlement the “New Par-

The countv of Bibb was laid off in tbe
