Yesterday morning the Couoty Court had
before it a case of assault and battery, in
which Mr. P. C. Sawyer was the defend
ant The prosecutor was a colored woman
by the name of Henrietta Lee. The
facts in the case were about these: Mr.
Sawyer was at his residence when the wo
man came in in an intoxicated condition,
and used very opprobrious and Insulting
language to Mr. Sawyer in the presence
of his family. He, when patience
ceased to be a virtue, picked up his walk
ing stick and straok her with it, inflioting
B/me painful wouods.
He conducted his own case yesterday,
and cross-examined the witness with a
good deal of closeness. The result wa*
an acquittal for the accused.
A peace warrant was issued yesterday
by Judge Holt in favor of Prinoe Albert,
a Zolu looking darkey, against Mike
Wesley, all at- and lately Wesley Moore.
Prince Albert resides near the outer edge
of Vineville, and alleged that Wesley,
who r etudes near by, attacked him with
a pistol. Prince is an ex-ornament of
the chain gang for carrying concealed

Those who have no acceBS to the official
records, have no idea of the number of
arrests made in the city by the city offi

ally large. Macon is a quiet, orderly
and peaceable city, and has as few dis
turbances as any other place in the State.
Its police force is small to the propor
tion of her population, but they do good
work in preserving order and captur
ing violators of the city ordinances.
We are indebted to the obliging

for the following information on the sub

Mr. C. 0. Smitn. who is well known in

prising and thoroughgoing business man,
has purchased the entire interest in the
candy manufactory recently conducted by
Major M. B. Kogers. He will oontinue

satisfaction to all bis patrons. His prioes
will be reasonable, and unadulterated

It will now no longer bo necessary for
our merchants to depend on the Balti*

expected that Smith’s candies.will be es
well known as Block's or any other man-

endorses Mr. Smith es his successor.
