Many of the older residents of this
city will regret to learn of the death of
Dr. Adiel Sherwood, which occurred st
St. Louis, on the 22d instant. The par
ticulars of his last hours are not known.

Georgia, and especially with Macon and
this immediate section, and his memory

admired.

The work of remoral from the old
round bouse of the Central Railroad in
E.i-t Maoon, to the round house in the
Compsnj’s yards, near the foot of Osk
street, is now going on. It was com-

nearly completed to-day. This will
bring ail the Central road's work on this
side of the riTer. The change will prove
a great convenience to the road, and an
appreciable siring to the rolling stock of
the company. The inconvenience of
having the engines of the read so far

ten fi-1.. The round house in East Ma
oon has been in constant use for maay
years, a .J is a very substantial structure.
It will p-obably be used for manufactur
ing purpose*. We understand several
persons are looking at the property with
a view of leasing or renting, and it is

An act to protect tho liberty of the citi
zens In proceedings requiring bait in
actions for tho recovery of personal
property.
Section I. Be it enacted ly the Gene
ral Assembly of the State of Georgia, That
when the defendant in uny action for tho
recovery of personal property in whioh
bail is required, shall by reason of his
inability to give eeonrity be held in im
prisonment, it shall be lawful for him to
make his petition in writing upon oath
to the Jndge of the conrt in which
the snit is pending, in whioh he shall
state that be is neither able to give tbo
security required by law, nor produce the
property, and oan furnish satufaetoiy
reasons for its non-prodnotiOD, and ire-
varse the facts stated m the plaintiff's af
fidavit for bail, of which petition he shall
oanse a oopy to be nerved upon the plain
tiff, whereupon it shall be the duty of
each official officer in term time or vaca
tion, after not less than five days’ notice
of the time and place of bearing has been
given to both parties, to proceed in a

Sstvioes at the Synagogue were well
attended last evening, to listen to Bsv. A.
Tauber, of Cincinnati had been in
vited to fill tbe pulpit. Tbe reverend
gentleman is very recently from Europe,

The ritual of the Charon was prononneed,
however, in a rich voioe, the intonations
being made more impressive by tbe Ger
man aooent.
The portion of the services which are
snng were elegantly rendered in one of
the strongest, most cultivated baritone
voices we have heard reoently. It is
indeed rich and beautiful. He bears the
reputation of being one of tbo finest sin
gers of his chnrcb. The discourse de
livered last evening was in German, and
was consequently unintelligible to a
number.
It was highly complimented, however,
by many conversant with the language

It wil) be a surprise to many to know
that last night, in the still watches of
the night, some of the young men of the
city, impatient at the delay in the erec
tion of the monument, raised one of their
own on the base in the middle
of Second street It is not made of Pa
rian marble, and the statne is wanting to
give symmetry to tbe structure, bnt still
it is the beat that could be done In the
limited time allotted in the interval of
the disappearance of tbe policeman on
that beat until he reappeared in making
his rounds.
The monument is made of the brioka
deeigned for the base of tbe iron fenee
and most be seen to be appreciated.
