gia Railroad. A resolution was appen
ded which instructed the Governor to far-
nish the toad with 250 able-bodied con
victs. The committee report that at pre
sent many women, bOr'S and infirm men

A Criminal Almost Lynched
Montgomebt, Ala., September 12 —
A man named Bailee was sentenced to
hang at Athens, Ala , to-day. The ca*e
was appealed to the Supreme C »art fer
the nex: term, and the sentence his been
suspended. Bailee murdered his wife,
and lynch law was prevented with diffi
culty when be was first arrested. About
three thousand people a.seembled at noon
to-day, broke into the jail and took Bailee
half a mile from the town for the purpose
of banging him. Not a man would tie
the knot. The sheriff then jumped into
he wagon, pistol in hand, and drove
back with Bailee and lodged him in
jaiL

London, September 12.—The Viceroy
of India telegraphs a sketch of military
arrangement*! up to September 11th.
General Eobert3 will have 6.500 men,
consisting cf ten regiments of infantry
and one brigade of cavalry. This force
will take possesion of the country from
Shutagardan Pasi to Thule. The coun
try will be held by forty thousand men
under General Gordan. The Khyber
line from Feshawur to Gundank will be
protected by 6,600 men, in addition to
the Peahawur girriaon. This force will
provide a movable column to hold Jaga-
Uluck and communicate with CUbul.
Rjierves at Peahawur and Hiwbel Pondi
will number five thousand men.
London, September 12.—A meeting of
the Home Rule League in Dublin yester
day, at which Messrs. Powers, Parnell
and. O'Leary were present, appointed a
committee to arrange for calling a pop
ularly elected Convention of 30D mem
bers—the same number as composed the
former Irish Parliament—to crush Irish
questions before the next session c*f Par
liament.

has occurred in the colliery pits of tho
Creeve Coal and Iron Company, at Ley-

continuation of the Gaily murder trial,
the jurymau who has been sick was pro
vided with a b d, upon which he lay dur
ing tho concluding argument of Jn ge
Morris for the prosecution. The lattar
maintained that a conspiracy was made
to kill Gilmer, and that their arrest on
the charge of murder was tbe step taken
for the purpeae of disarming them ard
getting them in po-ition where they
could not defend themeelvcs nor be de
fended, and where they could be killed
with lcs<i danger to their assaiauts.
Judge Morris closed his argumcn at
10:30. The ease was then given to the ju
ry, who ia less than hslf an hoar return
ed with a verdiot of not guilty.
