Merlons Disorder and Prompt
Arrest*.
Yesterday afternoon three men from
the country created a considerable amount
of disorder in the lower portion of the
city. They commenced operations on
Fifth street, about half-past three o'clock.
The police were notified, bat before they
arrived the party retreated beyond the
Fair grounds, shouting and firing their
pistols. The officers returned to their
beats after arranging for the capture of
the party should they venture into the
city again.
About balf^past four o'clock they came
back and renewed their disorderly actions
by firingpnto a house in the lower por
tion of the city, shelling it with brickbats,
and.uaing profane language on thee treet

ty and succeeded in capturing one at a
bar room on the iower part of Cherry
street, another was taken on Third
btrect while the third, after riding
down Third on horseback with a
drawn pi&iol in his hand was arrested on
emerging from an alley leading into
Fourth streot. Ail were promptly taken
to the barrack* aod looked np. Much
praise ia due the polioe force, especially
Lieutenant Harly and officers McOaffety^
Henderson, Wrye, and Adair in the
matter.
The parties were under the influence
of benzine, and seemed determined to
take the towu. Tne charges as entered
at the Bution House against two of th
party are drank and disorderly, carrying
concealed weapons and shooting in the
oity. The other's was not so serious. 'The
cases will come up in the polioe court
to-morrow morning.

OBITUARY.
Died in thh citv, Thursday. September 11th,
at the ave cf 35. and after an illness of about two
we^ks. William Joses.
William Jowbs was bom in Richmond, Va. t
but C/vire to this city some years since, where he
hasbren known aud noted for his honorable
and blameless life- For the past eight years he
was connected with Mr. Valentino’s restaurant
and bore the reputation or an honest an
faithful servant A member of the First Bap
tist Church his connection with God’s peop e
reman.ed unbrokeu twenty years. He was mar-
rted 17 years ago, and his stricken widow
mourns for him as a noble and generous halp-
• i,ate. Having no children of ms own he early
adopted two girls who have grown up nnder hif
<r$re, and who new monru his death as that and
real parent. His deatn was without psin life,
happy. Having lived a pure and Christian bra-
lie died in Goi's faith and now awaits in Abra
ham's bosom thn com.ng of his loved ones.
