Outrages in Baldwin County.
From a correspondent we learn ol
some outrageous proceedings in Baldwin
county, somo five miles east of Milledge-
ville, wblob cover quite a space in the
catalogue of crime known to the laws of
the State, Including trespass, arson and
mnrder. The sots of lawlessness have
been directed principally against a Dr.
J. A. P. Robson. A few days since bin
gin house was burned. His attention wnn
called to tbo horning building, and he
went toward tho spot, and was fired on
several times by persons ambuscaded in
a field of tali cotton. In tbe gin houa
was a Urge amount of seed cotcon, gins
and other articles. A few nights rfler
other houses on his place, fodder-stocks,
fences, eta, were homed. On Saturday
morning lost, a negro who lives on Dr.
Eobson’s place, while riding along the
rood to Miiledgevillo In r impany with
two others was shot by sovornl parties in
tbe bushes which skirted tho rood. Five
bolls penetrated tho body of tbe darkoy,
and he died immediately. Thu
two negroes who wore with tbu
dead colored man were so frightened
that they were afraid to tell what they
ppw and knew. Tho sheriff has gono
out to tho scene of the murder, but no
arrests havo been mado. Tho state of
affairs are terrible. Wo know tho good
people of Baldwin county disapprove
strongly of theBO outrages, and we hopo
to be ablo to chronicle their suppression
very shortly by tho arrest and oonviotiou
of the perpetrators. Tho vicinity
which they have occurred is not far from
that in which thu unfortunate killing of
Jack Himbrow *ook place last year.

The hkastpias Cattail picker.
Editors Telegraph and Messenger: The
Augusta Chronicle's champion ootton
picker at 465 pounds per day is beaten
by one who picked 569 pounds, as vouch
ed for by your correspondent, Mr. Oar-
son, of Eeynoldr. The writer knows of
still better work in that line. In I860 a
number of planters in Coapoma county,
Mississippi, offered premiums for tbe beet
ootton picking on their plantations on a
oertain day named. The first prime ms
won by a woman, who picked 625 pounds
of cotton daring that day, and the sec
ond best was bat little behind her. This
was, however, on land that made a bale
to the acre. G.

cannon ball about the sixo of an ordinary
peacb, and is a donation from Mrs. Dr.
Baber, of Macon, in whoso possession it
has been for over twenty yearr It ia
one of several that were dug out of the

We have resumed onr regular old-fashioned Wholesale
Grocery Business again at onr old locality in large new
