With hi* gaunt and watted hande.

At! not for ehelter end not for bread,
To die at the natter’s feet.
Out of the scourging storm
Where the winds night never beet;
Where Ton lay ever warm;
TV Freedom the piUloes
Fell from the orntl sky;
And the bitterness of bis nakednoea
Made Tom ao glad to—die
(MU had theee arm* the pith
Of Joat two years ago,
Wrecked in tie wrestle with
Yon wilderness of wo!
Ton's 1ore would faring the light

Bat the blood in his heart i* cold to night,
And be only comes to—die!
Was it ever to many years.
Or only yesterday.
That master, among the poors
Want bravest, with Tom. tbo gaj?
Before the “locust" and “hsU,”
Or only an hour gono by.
That Freedom roll wiih a flail
On Tom and made him die!
Of the dear o!d days, so awoet
Does master dream as he sits,

Till yoeterday sterns so dim,
And the far-away so nigh.
That bte head goes aU a'swim.

The Association closed its first year with 753 certificates issued, lost
only one member by death, [to date only two] levied only one assess
ment. A certificate of the person of the age of the deceased cost only
86 cents for §1,000, payable at death of member. These are facts which
prove the wisdom and economy of the protection offered its members.
The Association has become very popular and been successful in Ala
bama, Florida, Mississippi and Texas. Some of the most" prominent
well-known persons of these States are members, including the Gover
nors of each one. It is also meeting with great success in this State
[Georgia]. Some of the most prominent persons of this city and At
lanta have been made members of the Association.
We solicit a careful examination of our plans, feeling confident that it will securelyour member
ship. Cheapness and equity are italeiding features. For information in regard to membership, call
on or address JAMES P HOUGH. Macon. Ga, who represents the Association in this dty and State.
