By Olisby, Jones & Reese, MACON, GEORGIA, FRIDAY MORNING. DECEMBER 5, 1879.—PRICE FITE CENTS, Number 9.884 editorial cokrespoxdesce WiMnaros, December 2d, 1878. AS rxrJLZDOSAELE CZIEJIOy for which my apologies are Hereby tendered appeared in zny yeeterday'e (not received) let ter. Hadn’t a word about the Senate. It is il oust a banging crime, to be anre, bat never 11 committed it. Woll, then, to com > with Wbe eler, who occupied tbo chair for Use first time air.ee Hay. I don’t know anything of public interest to eey about him except that a ooloaaal floral pyramid graced hie deck, evidently the handiwork of eomo damo or darned who remembers his lonoly rendition as a widower. Other favored in this iino were the magnificent lo—another widower—Logan, Thur- , Eaton, Davis, Ooke. Kirkwood, Wbyto and one or two others. Old man Kirkwood, who is a granger all over, including bis boots and bay seed tn his hair, looked as pleased as tf be bad cap.ured a big purse at a fair and ■talked arenod bis bcnqast panting at inter vals and positions to fondly eye it. If there it« Mr*. K. I should advi-o her to come on here at once, for U is very ovident that her “oU man” la susceptible. Capricomos Conk- Bag appeared np to hie eyes in work but graciootly showed the few who approached his desk to shake bis band and inquire after hi* health. He his evidently been really ill. aatba appearance plain’y Indicates, but how much of it is dne to malaria and bow much to the remembrance of the bibulous Sprague's WxXgun, I don’t know. Ho doesn’t seem quite so topiofUcal as usual but still shows symptoms of smelling something not very fragrant in bis immediate neighborhood I hardly think after the shot gnn lesion at Carre, nictu that be will continue to be tbo magnificent snob be was b.fore. Tbo ven- anblo Hamlin wore the samo spike-tail in which be was sworn into office aa Yxco Presi dent with Lincoln and looked sourer and more ■ d—d the Democrat*'’ than ever. Of course be »ull acorn* an overcoat as superlatively effeminate, th'.ugh ulsters were trumps out doors with everybody else. & rough and tough oil party is the venerable and aa honest a hater of Southern whito folks aa yon can find anywhere. Matt Car penter looked even mere like a Bowery bay ■han usual with a cigar in his mouth, his -inwch bat crashed down over his oyas and a general air of having mado a night of it. Jud«e Thurman looked calm and eereno— bluff and hearty—and took snuff and wared that famous bandanna as usual. He doesn’t show a trace of having been eat down upon In October. Bayard. looking decidedly hand somer thin ever, and with a healthful bronze on his noblofsoe that told of recent sea travel, was the rco'.pient of many|congratula- Edmonds seemed to mo grimmer than «vor and as It actually longing for an opportunity to get at tbo Democrats and the Booth Many well-known faces were miss ing, among them Lamar and Hill. Gordon was present, erect and soldierly looking and genial as ever, with a frank cordial greeting and smile for all By the way, I had nearly forgotten John Logan, who looked blacker and mare brutal than usual, and was mucb lets precise in bis aim at the spittoon—when betook rny—than last session, and evidently was tally yearning to get at and -smash the s.|ii«h language with bis usual vigor, brace, as ntual. was tbo most faultlosaly dreraed man in the lot and behaved with the most finltlen propriety. His wifo was in the ladies gallery and was stared at nnmor- cifoily—far beyond tbo point of good breed ing, aa it seemed- to me. The starers wero however, evidently fresh Northern people doiog Washington for tho first timo. Blaiuo was conspicuously abeont. He la one of tho •■stare,” and everybody on such occasions wants toaee him. In consequenco of his abtooce the proceedings wero preternatur al!* dull, and Allison’s announcement of Chandler’s death was allowed to stand as a reason end occasion for adjournment. I am sere if Biaino bad been present things would not have been allowed to pats off so monoto- nously. THE LOCK AHEAD, in regard to the length of tho session and aonree and character of- legislation, shows wide difference* of opinion. It will be the policy and (ffort of the Democrats, if they do artist is so plainly indicated to thorn, to have a abort one full of business and voiy scant aa to chin music.. That is their policy, so tbst I don’t see how anyb«y can Otapnte- it. Transact all neocesarr business and theu K bome to the stamp and their constitnente. at year will bo about tbo most important one in the history of the party it has ever known and it can’t stand on; mistakes or foohsbsesa. If tho Democrats allow them- selvos to be entrapped into a repeti tion of past mistakes, then good byo Democracy at the poll* in Novombcr. We will hardly have another chance. Tho know this and their aim will be for a long session and a constant bedevilment and irritation of our poople into inatoad of working. Tboy will hin der bueicees as much as possible and then when the time has been wasted roll their eves, throw up tbeir hands and charge it all *n the majority. If they can havo their way tho nris’Tin will run into July. If tho Demo crats show their sense, early Juno will see an adjournment. If tboro woro not quito so many statesmen on ono side for whom tho wand of their own voices and the appear- 0 f their names in tho Bccord and news papers generally has such fascination I ■braid not doubt tho Juno programme’s bo le* easily carried oat. But I do think of it and doubt if tho newspapers at homo will keep op the refrain of a basinets and there fore a short session it would certainly help and I modestly suggest it. With this policy carried out ana a candidate who is wormy to leed a great party, the prospect doss not aetm so bine as it did after the October sbowerfbath*. F. 8. This, of conies, means that Gramcrey Park is ruled out. I hardly »h nV mo party can carry that load again. uiciLunnin. Hr. Another Goorgian journalist finds his tines cast in pleasant places this session, and l tmst will have all bis anticipations fully realized Asta’.ly clerk of ths House, tit. Eugene Spoor has a first class position, which I trust ho will alwayBflnd pleasant. He mado a capital editor, and I am persuad ed will retire: equal credit upon himself in hi* now role. I do not hear much comment upon Dr. Felton s Uto letter. Somehow it has scarce ly found its way into olnor than Radical journals in this and latitudes further North. Of coarse the Dr. will hereafter have noth ing more to do with Democratic caucuses or party action. I havo not seen it, but from what I bear, it must be a document not en tirely noploleant to tho opposition. And etraaeo-toaayrl have hoard uis aimo opin ion expressed by many other Democrats.
