The Verlfloetlon of Nationality.
Tit English Fleet and the Fillibutlers.
Waohihotow, Not. 4.—It will bo rccoUootcd that
MTaral months ago, the government of Oront Bri
tain sag noted in general terras, that sotno mode
ooghtto be adopted for vorlfytng the nationality
of T*nela, which could be mutually Died by both
parties, without offence to oither. Bat the die-
tlnet form of the proportion has not boon mode,
nor Is it known what orrangemont Her Majeity’s
government will commend.
It is not, however, considered to bo necessary
for the United States to make the initiative in this
matter, as the law of nations is acknowledged by
Gfoet Britain to mean that for wbioh our Govern
ment k'S always contended, and this to tho lntter
is setisfaetory. If Eogland desires any modifica
tion of It, her proposition will of courso bo entitled
to eoastderatlon. , „ ,
The substance of the dispatch of Lord Napier to
the State Department, is represented to bo. in ef
feet, that the Nicaraguan government will avail
itself of the aid of the British fleet to prevent the
landing of flilibusters. .....
Our Government considers itself able to enforce
the neutrality laws. Should, thorefore, Walker
end his followers fall into tbo hands of tho Brliish
and.thus he prevented from carrying out their de
signate would provo nn occurrence much to be
deprecated, as it would 'produce an unpiansaat
state of feeling against tho British gnvornutoat.
Thb Hermitage.—A gentleman who has just
visited the Hermitage, the residence oi Gen. Jack-
son, thus writes of what be saw there :
"Prominent among tho curiosities was a wooden
pitohor. It was mado of wood from the elm troo
under which William Penn made tho oolobrated
Indian treaty. The pitohor was made and present
ed by the coopers of Pniladetpbia, and although
it is not larger than a ootnmou cream-jug, it con
tains 750 itaret. Tbe hoops, Up, and bandio are
silver; the bottom is a magnifying glass, by look
ing through which one is enabled to see the joints,
wbioh are not visible to tha nakod eye. Wo will
next notice 'Old Hickory.’ This is a double cup—
that Is, two cup* with one bottom; so that when
one it turned up the other is turned down. It is,
as Us name implies, of hickory, and wbat is more
singular about it, has a natural handle. It is sim
ply st block about one foot in length, and was cut
on Long Island from a hickory sprout, tho parent
stem of which was severed by a cannon ball in tho
war of tho Bovolntion.
“The next things we will mention are a calumet
of stone, presented by some Indian chief; a bay
onet, with a large rootgrowth around it, found
near the battle ground below New Orleans; tho
cnp eDd saucer out of which General Washington
drank bis last tea, and a small piece of candio
found in the tent of Lord Cornwallis when he sur
rendered to Goneral Washington, and dosed the
Revolutionary straggle. Tbo last named article
was given to General. Jackson with tho request
that he would light it on each Fourth of July.—
Mrs. Jsobson remarked that they had failed to du
this for several years, owing to its shortness.”
A Dimrium Tbrubks Cask.—On Friday moro-
iugfjamea King, a Savannah pilot, called upon Ser
geant Craft, of tho Mayor’s squad, and stated that
there waa a man who was evidently suffering from
the delirium tremens on board tho ship Montgom
ery, from Savannah. Tho pilot said tho man was
laboring under the idea that there was a conspira
cy to kill him, and handed tbo Sergeant tho mnn’s
pocket-book which'contained tho sum of $147 15 in
money. The Bergeant despatched trfficor Brandt

life that be should accompany him.
n On his arrival at the Squad office the man gavo
his name as Wm. C. Mendle, and said that his
timily resided in tbo town of Marion, near New
Bedford, Mass. He declared that he had been
robbed of bis pocket-book .containing $80, and

A ° Smart Womah” at Stewart’s—Ore Way
to Bor A Shawl.—Last evening an elegantly-
dressed woman entered Stewart’s, Bnd asked to
set some shawls. After assorting and comparing,
she et length made a selection, the prico being five
hundred dollars. Gracefully producing hor porte-
tnonnale, she tendered the clerk n two thousand

tho cashier, who examined it carefully, and then,
to maka himself perfectly sure, sent a clerk out

Meanwhile the lady became very Indignant, and
resented the affront which she said bad beon put
Upon her. She was not a character to receivo or
pass off bad currency, and wonld never come again
to Stewart’s to do any shopping. Presently tbo
messenger returned with tbo intelligence that the
bill was good. She esught it from him, declar
ing that she wonld not take the shawl. After a
little while, however, she seemed to rolent, and

• Oor.Cjtt,—Although it was thought by some,

much to wie beauty of tbo block on wbioh they

rflHK RESTORATIVE OF PRC? O. J. WOOD FOR
A Restoring Ilnir perfectly and permanently, has
never yet had a rival; volume after v. In me night be
given from all pnrta of the world, and fr >m the most
intelligent, to prove that it is a perfect Restorative; but
read tho circular and you cauuut doubt; ru id also, the
following:
ffir The Hair.—People have for centuries been af
flicted with bald heads, and the only remedy, hereto
fore known, has been those nbominaldo wigs. By a re
cent discovery of Professor Wood these articles are be
ing fast dispensed with, but a great many persona still
pntronizo them, because they have been so often im
posed upon by Hair Tonics of different kinds. To all
such persons we earnest y renke too request, that they
will try once again, for In Wood's Restorative there is
ho such thing ns fail. We know of a lady aho was bnld,
who used the article a short time, and her head is now
covered completely with tho fir cut and most beautiful
curls imaginable' Wo know of numerous cases where
hair wa» rapidly falling out, which It restored la greater
perfection than it over had been befoie
It is also without doubt ono of the best articles fnj
keeping tbo hair in pood condition, making it soft nnd
glossy, removing dnndiuff, nnd has proved Itself the
greatest enemy lo all the ills that hair is heir to
It Is the duty of every ono to improve their personal
appearance, though sumo may differ In regard lo the
ways of doing it; but every ono will admit that a beau
tiful bend of liiiir, either in man or wcuian, is sn object
much to bo desired, and iheiearu no means that should
bo left untried to obtain such a consideration — Woman’s
Advocate, Philo.
t'oshocton, Ohio, Nov. 17,1866.
O. J Wood A Co —Gents: As I have t een engaged iu
•oiling your Hair Res orativn the last season for one of
your local agents (K. M. llcnklnstm) and having experi
enced the beneficial effects of it myself, 1 would likv to
obtain nn agency for the Ftmoof Ohio, or some State in
tho West, should you wish to make such an arrange
ment. as I am convinced there is nothing equal to it in the
United States, for restoring hair. J havo been engaged
iu lb e Urn* business for several years, nnd have sold va
rious preparations for tho hair, but have found nothing
that restores tho secretive organs or invigorates ihe scalp
na well as yours, being fully convinced that your Re
storative Is what you leprusent it to tie, I would liko to
engage In tho sale of it, for I am satisfied it must sell.
Yours truly, 8. T. STOCK MAM.
Wayland Mass* Feb. 6,1867
Prop. O. J Wood & Co.—Gents: Having realized the
good effects ol your Hair Restorative, I with to state,
(hat finding my hair growii g thltr, as well n* gray, 1
was Induced from what I rend and heard, to try tho ar
ticle prepared b) you. to promote its growth and change
Its color as it was in youth, both of which ft has effected
completely. In tko operation I have used nearly three
bottles. Yours, fee.,
