last night, and both were disposed of.
The Mayor waa authorised to contract with Messrs-
Firrcll k Bra, for lighting Cnrrytown with Vesper Gas,
to the extent of twenty lantps, to bum every night that
the moon does not slilno clearly, tho city to furnish tho
poets and lamps, and pay tho contractors $20 per annum
for each lamp. This will prove a groat convenience to
our Cnrrytown Mends and wo think tho city has acted
wisely in patronising so valuable an Invention.
The new Police law, Introduced at tho last meeting,
waa taken np and passed, with a single amendment re
ducing the pay of tho Chlor to $1,600. Wc think this an
error, u tho services of an efficient officer cannot bo ob

Wo again call tho attention of tho public to the VESPBU GAS LIGHT, and without
adding any tiling of its merits ourselves, wo simply submit tho following testimonials, for
pcrtiBul.
Wo have rented tho Centro Stonr under tho now Masonic Hall, for the express pnrposo
of tho VESPER LIGHT, where tho public, whom wo invite, ono and all, can havo a fair
opportunity of peeing it in operation ovorv night. Tho great cheapness, security and bril*
lianoy of tho Light, recommend it to the consideration of everybody. Every Fixture is
complete in Itself. Tho prices aro from Fivo Dollars, upwards.
Rights for counties, cities, towns and villages in tho State of Gcorgiu, also, tho Fixtures,
in’various styles, for salo by tho Proprietors,

Testimonials:
SAVANNAH, Dec. 201b, 1868.
Mrains. PabrbtxA lino.:—Gentlemen : I havo given
your “Vesper On* Light” a fair trial, nnd deem it neces
sary to give you this testimonial In It* favor. I find it
to be a very superior light, both In brilliancy nnd econ
omy, and la admirably ndnntod to tho use of Printing Of
fices, or any place where the use of much light la re
quired ; It is equal, If uot au|»orlor, to any light I havo
iiBdd, I icing less destructive to tho eye. 1 consider It n
capital substitute for tho Coal Ona, with tho exception
that It requires a littlo moro attention inordnr to pro-
duce a brilliant light. I have no hesitation In recom
mending It to tho public. K. J. PURSE:
SAVANNAH, GKO, Dec. 12th, 1858.
MR. W. If. F.umxu—Dear Sir : Tlda Is to certify, that
I havo ono of your Vo* per Goa Lights now in use in my
office, which I thlnk fnr superior to anything of tho kind
I liavo seen, for brilliancy of light, ns well a* for It* clean
liness, nnd la also leas expensive, than any other kind
that wonld give tho snmo light. I would cheerfully re
commend It to the public.
Yours rospcctfolly, K. IIENIIV.
SAVANNAH, Dec. 15th, 1858.
W. II. PARnm k Boo.—Gents: I am using ono or your
Vospor (In* Light*,” nnd nm of the opinion nRer, n thor
ough teat of Its merits, that it is fully equal If not supc-
lor to Coal On*.
Your* respectfully, 31. HAMILTON’.
8AVANNA1I, Dec. 15th, 1858.
Mrshrs. FAnREU. A Boo.—Gents: ARer having used
your Vesper On* Light in competition with tho Coal Goa
of thla city in my store, I find it to lie cvcrythingyoii re
present. I find tlint it costs about ono fourth tho price of
the City Coal Gas, nnd gives equally a* good a light. I
consider it perfectly safe nnd easily munnged.

HAVANNAH, Go., Dee. lOtli, 1868.
Messrs. Farrem, k Bro.:—Gentlemen: I have been
using your Ve*|ier Goa Light for some time, anil It af
fords me much measure to say that It has Tar exceeded my
expectations. 1 laving kopt n regiator, I find tho oxpenso
cannot exceed tlireo quarters of n cent per hour, with a
full head on—giving a light equal to any ga* light I over
saw. Tho expense can bo reduced nnd still have a good
light. To those wishing a good light with littlo cost nnd
trouble, I would recommend them to givo tho Vesper
Go* u trial. Very rospectfhlly, Yours,
E. L. HACKKTT.
"SAVANNAH, Dec. 22,1868.
Messrs.Farrell Brothers—Gentlemen: I have now
burnt your Vos|wr Gns in my store In Whitaker street
about three weeks, und am so well satisfied with It that
you will, us Hoon a* convenient, place four doublo
branches In tho store corner of Congress of tho same
description as those In Whitaker. In fact sinco I havo
occupied tho store, which Is aliove four years, I havo been
comparatively In darkness, until I burnt your Vesper
Light. Tho reason why I It Is only ono-fourth tho price
of gas, cun consequently afford a good light.
Yours, respectfully,
CHAH. HASTINGS.
SAVANNAH, Dec. 20,1858.
Messrs. Farrkix k Bro.—Gent*: While travelling
through this State wc have constantly used two of your
Vesper Goa lumps. They have given perfect satisfaction,
and compare favorably with tho gas lights, being an-
perlor to sonio nnd costing only ono-fourth to ono-flfth
their prices. ’ c. B. EDWARDS.
