SATURDAY MORNING, JANUARY 5, 1861.
TBijEGE-APH?: O
From WMblnston.
Washingtok, Jan. 4.—Numerous 'western members
of the Legislature of Virginia arrived here yesterday
and to-day, on their way to Richmond. The genera)
feeling expressed by them is that the Legislature should
Immediately enact a law calling a State Convention,
and pass a declaratory resolution against the coercion
of a seceding State by the General Government.
Representatives Curry and Pugh, of Alabama, have
left for home, and others from that State will leave
next week. "Members from othei prospectively sece
ding States are also making their arrangements to go.
In coneequence of an accident to the
form, several columns of advertisements, which
have to he set up anew, are omitted in the pres
ent issue. They will re-appear in our next.
Farmers’ and Mechanics’ Bank. This in
stitution, it will be aeon, has declared a semi
annual dividend of three per centum, payable
on demand.
JFor tiie Fort.— Messrs. Claghom & Cun
ningham advertise in onr columns, this morn
ing a steamer for Fort Pulaski, to leayo at ten
o’clock, A. M., every day. A bag of letters and
packages will be made up daily at their office,
ut 9M o’clock, A. M. This will prove a great
convenience to oHr citizens having friends at
the Fort.
fZST Members of the Savannah JockyClub
ore referred to the call of the President, to be-
found elsewhere.
csr wc have no additional news from the
Fort. The reinforcements sent down yester
day arrived safely, and forthwith entered upon
their duties. Work Is the order of the day, and
we hear all perform their part with alacrity and
cheerfulness.
Ttie Governor and Adjutant-General left the
city by the 11 o’clock train, last night, for Mil-
ledge u Me.
Aids to the Governor.—We learn that lion.
Edward C. Auderson and Judge Henry R.
Jackson, have been appointed Aids to the Gov
ernor, with the rank of Colonel.
Lawlessness.—It is gratifying to observe that
iu these trying times, when the public mind is
excited beyond the bounds of discretion, the
Governor and his councillors have set their
fiiceffwgainst all unauthorized acts on the part
of Individuals, and determined to save the State
Irom everything that would reflect upon her
honor and fair fame. This is as it should be, and
we hope they will relax none of their efforts to
continue the good work they have begun ; at
the same time we would conjure all our citizens
to banish undue excitement and co-operate in
preserving law and order throughout our pre
sent troubles. Let not a just cause be staiued
by a wrongful act.
So far ns the operations at the Fort are con
cerned, we have, in the high character and cool
discretion of Col. Lawton and his second in
command, Capt. Bartow, and we trust in the
general disposition of the garrison, the fullest
guaranty that nothing will b* done to com
promise the State.
To the Klectors of the Second District*
Fellow Citizens.—I respectfully announce
ts you, I am a candidate for re-election to the
office of Justice of the Peace of your District,
and solicit your friendship this day. The elec
tion will be held at Justice Hart’s office, Bryan
street, ucar the Market. Polls to be opened at
7 o’clock, A. M., and close at 5 P. M.
Your obedient servant,
Phillip M. Russell.

GLAD NEWS FROM THE
•CHEROKEE NATION.
The proud and haughty children of the forest have
at length yielded to the solicitations of a “border Mis
sourian,” and imparted the secret of their treatment in
venereal diseases. This has ever been one of their
most profound secrets, and not until their hunting
grounds and the war dance had passed into oblivion,
and their haughty minds broken, could they by any
means be induced to impart to the “pale lace” the se
cret of their success. Poor afflicted man, you need
suffer no more. In the Cherokee Remedy, you will

THE OXYGENATED BITTERS.
Nature, in her great laboratory, has stored some
remedy adapted to every disease which “flesh is bei
to.” But It requires the investigation and research to
the philosopher to discover and apply this remedy.—
Snch research and investigation has succeeded in dis
covering a remedy for that most alllie live dispensation,
the
Dyspepsia!
With all its lessor and numerous evils; and it may be
safely asserted that until the appearance of ihe Oxyge
nated Bitters, a case of Dyspepsia cured was a rare ex
perience in medical practice. Now. under the influ
ence of those Bitters the rule is to cure, the rare excep-
ton, failure to eure.
Bead the following, which the subscriber requests us
to publish for the beneflt of the afflicted :
As Obdurate and Inveterate Case of Dyspepsia
Cured by the Oxygenated Bitters.
Fabics, N. Y., Nov. 24, 1S59.
Messrs Sktu W. Fowle A Co., Boston,—
For several years past I have been afflicted, most of
the time severely, with Dyspepsia. It assumed the
form ol tiiousuess, Aeartburu. and Oppression after
Eating accompanied with severe pains m the stomach
and constipation of the bowels. 1 tried many popular
remedies without avail, when, about eighteen months
since, having heard the Oxygenated Bitters spoken ol
in high terms. I was induced to give the medicine a
trial, it indeed it coqfd be called a trial, lor it required
but one or two doses to give|immediate relief. For
weeks after I would suffer no inconvenience from my
old enemy, when another attack would give occasion
fora small dose of the Bitters; and by the use of less
than one bottle, I find myself effectually cured.
I rocoxnniond it to all Dyspeptics, with confidence,
believing that it a fair trial or it is made, a permanent
cure will be thelresult.
You

TO COTTON PLANTERS.
The result of the late election, for President of the
United States, developes the tact, that there is a party
in power who are seeking control of our consciences,
and the destruction of our property. The events that
are being developed, however, show that the Southern
8totes will not submit to be ruled by sueh a power.—
These political difficulties indicate a change in our
Commercial relations with the Northern Slates, from
whence our supplies have been mostly received, and a
return to a more legitimate and direct trade. To those
who desire to promote this legitimate and direct trade,
if there are any such, and they are at a lots as to how
to accomplish this object, I will say to them that I will
receive Cotton destined for foreign markets; wilj
when desired, advance one halt the value of the cot
ton, at the port of embarkation ; will Lave the cotton
shipped to Liverpool, if not otherwise directed, and
sold. The proceeds of sale returned in gold and such
articles of produce as tho planter may require. For all
advances, interest will be charged at seven percent.—
Charges on the other side, the usual commission for
selling cotton and purchasing eupplies.
Without conference, I refer to the following gentle

Read the following from the well known Captain of
the steamer Fulton :
New Orleans, 8d Oct., 1S59.
Dr. J. C. Ayer, Lowell—
Sir: I am urged by my wife to report to you a cure
your Sarsaparilla has made in our family, and as It is
the only way in which we can make you any acknowl
edgment of our gratification. I will proceed to state:
My little son, eleven years old, has had Scrofula sores
on his ears, neck and arms for five years. Thev were
much of the t ime very distressing, and we feared they
would kill him. At first a swelling would appear, then
it would break and make a running sore, which would
not heal. They became very loathsome and often
}>&inful; Uiey stopped the growth and seemed to under
mine bis health, so that he became feeble and sickly.—
We tried Physicians and Medicines, but they did no
good. A clergyman in our neighborhood, who had
seen some remarkable cures by your Cherry Pectoral,
ndvis -d us to try your Sarsaparilla, and wc did. The
smallest 6©res rhewed symptoms of health in about
two weeks; in two more they had healed, and in two
months tho child was as well as any body. He now
enjoys perfect health, with no remnant of the disorder
about him that we can discover. Ifyou, sir, are a pa
rent, you may well believe that we shall not soon for
get you.
Verv truly, your humble servant

DR. LITTLE’S
VERMIFUGE.
In LARGE Bottles and Vials.
N OTHING else is required to relieve children ot
Worms; and besides being one of thecheapestand
best Vermifuges ever offered to the public, its frequent
use in families will save much trouble and expense, as
well as the lives of many children—for eight out of every
ten cases generally require it.
LITTLE’S
Anodyne Cough Drops.
A certain cure for Colds. Cougha, Bronchitis, Asthma
Pain in the Breast; also, Croup, Whooping
Coughs, Ac., Ac., amongst Children.
This is a pleasant medicine to take, producing imme
diate relief, and in nine out of ten cases a prompt cure.
It exercises the most controling influence over Coughs
and Irritations of the Lungs of any remedy known,
often Stopping tho most violent in a few hours, or at
most in a day or two. Many cases thought to be decid
edly consumptive, have been promptly cured by using a
few bottles. As anodyne expectorant, without astring-
ing the bowels, it stands paramount toall cough mixtures
LITTLE’S
FRENCH MIXTURE.
This i* prepared from a French Recipe, (in the form
of No. 1 and 2; the first for the accute, and No 2 for the
chronic stage.) and from its unexampled success, is like
ly to supersede every other remedy for the cure of dis-
ases o! the Kidneys and Bladder, Gonorrhoeal, Blennor
rheeal and Leucorrhceal, or Fluor Albus affections. This
extensive compound combines properties totally diffe
rent in taste and character from anything to be found in
the United States Pnarmacopoeia; and in point of safe,
tv and efficiency is not rivalled in America)
LITTLE’S
RINGWORM AND TUTER OINTMENT.
FORTIS No. 2.—Hundreds of cases. Chronic Tet
ters, Scald Heads, and diseases cf the skin generally
have been cured by this remedy ; and since the intro
duction of the No. 2 preparation (t>eing stronger) scarce
ly a case has been found that it wul not effectually erad
icate in a short time. For the cure of Cancerous Sore
and Ulcers it is applied in the form ot plasters, and is
almost infallible
In more than twe hundred places in Georgia, and in
the Southern States, they are to be had ; and as there
are scamps about who are counterfeiting his remedies
by palming off their own or something else, by using the
same or similar names (for no patent is wanted o se
cured amid the absurd patents oi the day,) let all be
cautioned to look well for the signature of the Proprie
or, WM. G. LITTLE.

TO HORSE DEALERSs
Sweet’s Infallible Liniment for Horses is
unrivalled by any, and in all cases of lame
ness, arising from sprains, biuises or wrenching, its
effect is magical and certain. Harness or saddle galls
scratches, mange, Ac., it will also cure speedily. Spavin
ana ringbone may be easily prevented and cured in
their incipient stages, but confirmed cases are beyond
the possibility of a radical cure. No case of the kind,
however, is so desperate or hopeless but it may be alle
viated by this liniment, and its faithful application will
always remove the lameness, and enable the horse
travel with comparative ease.
Every horse owner should have this remedy at hand
for its timely use at the first appearance of lamenes
will effectually prevent those formidable diseases men
tioned, to which all horses are liable, and which render
so many otherwise valuable horses nearly worthless.

YVe beg to call the attenfwn of the public
to this long tested and unrivalled
FAMILY MEDICINE.
The Pain Killer is a purely vegetable
compound, and while it is a most efficient
Remedy for Pain, it is. a perfectly safe medi
cine even in the most unskilful hands
FOR SUMMER COMPLAINT,
or any other form of bowel disease in children
or adults; it is an almost certain cure, and has
without doubt been more successful in curing
the various kinds of
CHOLERA
than any other known remedy, or even the
most skiiful physician. In India, Africa, and
China, where this dreadful disease is ever
more or less prevalent, the
PAIN KILLER
is considered by the natives, as well as Eu
ropean residents, in those climates,
A SURE REMEDY.
As a Tonic for the Stomach, it is unrivalled.
A few doses will relieve severe cases of
Indigestion,
and it is often a perfect cure for
DYSPEPSIA
in its most aggravated forms. Its tonic and
stimulating properties, arousing the system to
vigorous action, render it a most effectual
cure for
COLDS AND COUGHS,
when used according to directions.
For external application, it is unsurpassed
by any medical preparation known.
RHEUMATISM,
and Neuralgic Affections, are quickly relieved
and often cured by it. Any Soreness in the
Muscles or Joints can be relieved by its appli
cation. It cures instantly the most violent
TOOTHACHE.
It should always be kept near at hand, to
be used in cases of severe
BURNS OR SCALDS.
If applied immediately, according to direc
tions, it will give instant relief and prevent
blistering.
It is peculiarly adapted to the wants of
SS3AMEIN,
and persons making sea voyages, and no ves
sel should sail without a supply of it. One
captain writes us, “ I h ive made several voy
ages,— often with emigrants, — and though 1
ceep a good medicine chest, and have severa
imes had a good deal of sickness on boar .
tave found the Tain Holler so efficient in al
•ases, as to entirely preclude the use of aL
>ther medicines."
