TUESDAY MORNING, r JANUARY IS. 1861.
Steamer Evebgla.de.—We are requested to
state that the steamer Everglo.de will leave for
Fertmndlna, at 3 o’clock p. mthis day, as usual.
£3^* A despatch to Messrs. Brigham, Baldwin
«fc Co., suites that the steamship It. It. Cuyler,
arrived at New York on the 14th, and would
cave on the 15th for Savannah.
ry The steamship Huntsville, Capt. Post,
from New York, arrived at her wharf at 10
o’clock, a. m., yesterday. Purser Post will ac
cept our thanks for usual courtesier.
The Garrison.—All accounts, both from
superior officers and visitors, agree in repre
senting the conduct of our volunteers now in
garrison at Fort Pulaski, as not only exem
plary, but in the highest degree honorable to
them, both as soldiers and citizens. The disci
pline is rigid and strictly up to military rule,
while the condition of the fort threw upon
them a very large amount of heavy labor—all
of which has been borne with untiring energy
and perfect cheerfulness. They have imparted
a new aspect to everything about the fort, and
placed the defences in a position that renders
them equal to every probable emergency.-—
Whatever may be the issue of present troubles,
the garrison at Fort Pulaski will have done
credit to themselves, and deserved well of their
State.
Special Notice to Consignee* of Cotton.
Central Railroad Office, >
Savannah, Ga., Jan. 14,1861. \
Tho attention of consignees is earnestly re
quested to the rules of this company, which
require the removal of cotton from the yard
immediately after the discharge from the cars.
Unless cotton is removed according to rule, it
will be removed by the company into city ware
houses, and stored at the expense of con
signees.
The rush of cotton is such at this moment,
that there will not be room for its discharge,
notwiths:nnding the very large space allotted
£ . for its reception, if consignees fail to have it
promptly hauled out.
I appeal to the merchants aud owners of
drays to aid me in my efforts (which I promise
shall be unremitting,) so to conduct business
as that they, as well as the Company, shall not
be put ; o unnecessary trouble or delay.
I.ci :> work together with a will, and wc can
accomplish our task.

No application for leave to visit Fort Pulaski
will be hereafter considered, unless intended
strictly for business purposes.

Gentlemen : I consider the effect of the Peruvian
Syrup not more remarkable in my own case than in
that of my wife. Several years since she began to ex
perience occasional turns of what we at first regarded
the common sick-headache. . hese increased upon hei
bath in severity and frequency. She followed the pres-
ptiors of excellent physicians, all to no purpose, and
was finally assured by her medical attendant that her
case was not such as commonly passes under the name
of sick-headache, but a sickness resulting rather from
weakness. She would have a premonition of her sick
ness in a dimness of sight, wiih floating specks before
her eye?, followed soon by a severe pain in the head,
and then nausea and vomiting of the most distressing
nature. These turns would last from twelve to twen
ty-four hours, and were very prostrating in ibeir ef
fects. For the last few years they were almost inevi
tably induced by over-exertion, or excitement from
any cause, however slight, even such as were conse
quent upon making and receiving cal s.
She resolved on a trial of the Peruvian Svrnp It
accomplished what no other medicine has had power
to da-It staj’ed her sickness, and from that hour to
this, numbering several months, m the course of which
she has passed through a hundred experiences that
would previously have induced her distressing sickness,
she hns not felt the slightest intimation of its approach

AYER’S COMPOUND EXTRACT SAR
SAPARILLA.
No one remedy is more needed in this country than
a reliable alterative, but the sick have been so outra
geously cheated by the worthless preparations of Sar
saparilla abroad, that they are disgHS ed even with the
name. Yet the drug cannot be blamed for the impo
sitions from which they have suffered. Most of the so
called Sarsaparilla in market contain little of the vir
tues of Sarsaparilla or any tiling else. They are mere
slops, - inert and worthless, while a concentrated ex
tract of the active variety of Sarsaparilla compounded
wi ;h Dock, Slillingia. Iodine, etc., is, as it ever will
te, a powerful alterative and an effectual remedy.—
Sucli is Ayer’s Extract of Sarsaparilla, as its truly won
derful cures of the great variety of complaints which
require an alterative medicine, have abundantly shown.
Do not, therefore, discard this invaluable medicine,
because you have been imposed upon by something
pretending to be Sarsaparilla, while it was not When
you you have used Ayer’s—then, and not till then, will
you know the virtues of Saisaparilla. For minute par

TO COTTON PLANTERS.
Tbe result of the late election, for President of tbe
United States, developcs the fact, that there is a party
in power who are seeking control of our consciences,
and the destruction of our property. The events that
are being developed, however, show that the Southern
States will not submit to be ruled by sueb a power.—
These political difficulties indicate a change in our
Commercial relations with the Northern States, from
whence our supplies have been mostly received, and a
return to a more legitimate and direct trade. To those
who desire to promote this legitimate and direct trade,
if there are any such, and they are at a loss as to how
to accomplish this object, I will say to them that I will
receive Cotton destined for foreign markets; will
when desired, advance one half the value of .the cot
ton, at the port of embarkation ; will have tbe cotton
shipped to Liverpool, if not otherwise directed, and
sold. The proceeds of sale returned in gold and such
articles of produce as the planter may require. For all
advances, interest will be charged at seven percent—
Charges on the other side, the usual commission for
selling cotton and purchasing supplies.
Without conference, I refer to the following gentle
men:

preparation of Iron can be compared with it Impuri
ties oi the biood, depression ot vital energy, pale and
otherwise sickly complexions indicate its necessity in
almost every conceivable case. Innoxious in all mala
dies in which it has been tried, it has proved absolutely
curative in each of the following complaints, viz:
In Debility, Nervous Affections, ‘Emaciation, Dys-
Constipation, Diarrhoea, Dysentery,
Consumption, Scrofulous Tuberculosis, Salt
Rheum, Mismenstruation, Whites, Cblorosi*, Liver
Complaints, Chronic Headaches, Rheumatism, Inter
mittent Fevers, Pimples on the Far*-, occ;
In cases of GENERAL DEBILITY, whether the -
result o»' acute disease or ui the continued diminution
ot nervous and muscular energy from chronic com
plaints, one trial of this restorative has proved success
ful to an uxleni which no description nor written attes
tation would render credible. Invalids so long bed
ridden a» to have become forgotten m tbeir o»u neigh
borhoods, have suddenly re-appeared in the busy world
as if just returned from protracted travel in a distant
land, dome very signal instances of this kind are at
tested of tetuale Sufferers, emaciated victims ol appa
rent marasmus,sanguineous exhaustion,critical changes,
and that complication ot nervous and oyspetic aversion
to air and exercise for which the physician has no
name.
In NERVOUS AFFECTIONS of all kinds, and tor
reasons familiar lo medical men, the operation of this
preparation of iron must necessarily be salutary, tor
unlike tbe old oxides, it is vigorously tonic, without
being exciting and overheating; and gently, regular-y
aperient, even in the most obstinate cases of cosUvel
ness, without ever being agastric purgative, or inflict
ing a disagreeable sensation.
It is this tatter property, among others, which makes
it so remarkably effectual and permanent a remedy for
Piles, apou which it also appears to exert a disliuct and
specific action, by dispersing the local tendency which
sorms them.
In DYSPEPSIA, innumerable as are its causes, a
singieoox of these Chalybeate Pills has oltea sufficed
for the most cases, m chiding-f
Costive ness.-
In unchecked DIAERHCEA, even when advanced to
DYSENTERY, confirmed, emaciating, and^pp; rently
malignant, the effects have been equally decisive and
astonishing.
In the local pains, loss of flesh and strength, debilita
ting cough, and remittent hectic, which generally indi
cate INCIPIENT CONSUMPTION, this remedy x i
allayed the alarm of friends and physicians, in severe,
very gratifying and interesting instances.
In SCROFULOUS TUBERCULOSIS, this medica
ted iron bas had far more than tbe good effect oi the
most cautiously balanced preparations o^ iodine, with
out auy ot their well known liabilities.
The attention of remains cannot be too confidently
invited to this remedy and restorative, in the cases pe
culiarly affecting them.
In RHEU wATISM. both rnronic and inflammato
ry—in the latter, however, more decidedly—it has been
invariably well reported, both as alleviating para and
reducing the swellings and stiffness of the joints and
muscles.
In INTERMITTENT FEVERS it must necessarily
be a greut remedy and energetic restorative, and its
progress in tbe new settlements ol the West, will prob
ably be one high renown and usefulness.
No remedy lias ever been discovered, in the whole
nistory ot medici e, which exerts such prompt, happy,
and fully restorative effects. Good appetite complete
digestion, rapid acquisitian of strength, with an unusu
al disposition for active and cheerful exercise, immedi
ately foliow its use
