WEDNESDAY MORNING, JAN. 1«, 1861
Infamous Sacrilege.—Wc invite attention
to the advertisement of Mr. Wetter, offering a
large reward for the discovery of the perpetra
tor of a crime that is something new in this
community. We hope the wretch may be fer
reted out and severely punished.
The “Rattlesnakes’.’—This order will have
a flog presentation and an address at the corner
of West Broad and Broughton streets, at 4
o’clock this afternoon.
Wc regret to hear that, from some cause un
known to us, the Republican has failed, in great
part , to reach the garrison.' We have been send
ing daily, by the boat, from twenty-five to thirty
copies for distribution among the officers and
men, but from some cause the distribution has
failed. For the future we shall adopt the plan
of a separate package for each corps, and hope
there will be no disappointment.
From the Fortt—-A detachment of twenty-
live of the Republican Blues left for the fort by
the boat yesterday, and on her return some
forty of the Guards and Oglcthorpes came up,
witli camp equipage &c. We learn that a sen
tinel, losing his balance in a high wind, while
on dnty, Monday night, fell from the inner wall
into the yard* but suffered no material damage.
Than Price of Coal at Charleston.—Phil
adelphia, Jan. 10.—The nigh price obtained for
coal at Charleston h;ts induced persons in this
city to attempt sending a ship load of it there ;
but ship owners refuse to take it, though five
dollars a ton freight is offered.
War Preparations.—“Perley,” the Washing
ton correspondent of the Boston Journal, says
that forty-two tons of ammunition are now on
the way from New York to Louisiana, under
the charge of Adams & Co.’s Express. The
freight amounts to over £6,000.
Special Notice to Consignees of Cotton.
Central Railroad Office, )
Savannah, Ga., Jan. 14,1861. )
The att mtion of consignees is earnestly re
quested to the rules of this company, which
|i require Hi removal o£ cotton from the yard
immediately after the discharge from the cars.
Unless cotton is. removed according to rule, it
will be removed by the company into city ware
houses, aud stored at the expense of con
signees.
jlic rush ot cotton is such at this moment,
that there will not be room for its discharge,
notwithstanding the very large space allotted
lor its reception, if consignees fail to have it
promptly hauled out.
I appeal to the merchants and owners of
drays to agt me in my efforts (which I promise
shall be unremitting,) so to conduct business
as that they, as well as the Company, shall no
be pm • • unnecessary trouble or delay.
Let iw work together with a will, and we can
accompli-li our task.

WISTAR’S BALSAM OF WILD
CHERRY.
For the cure of Coughs, Colds, Hoarsener-, Asthma,
Influenza, Croup, Whooping Cough, Bronchitis, Pre
disposition to Consumption, Ac.
This great remedy is too well known, and is per
forming too much good to make it necessary to go into
an elaborate discussion of its merits. Suffice it to say
that it still maintains its supremacy in curing diseases
of the most obstinate character, and that all who suf
fer from the above complaints, alter having tested this
remedy, seldom have occasion to resort to other ap
pliances to insure a perfect restoration to health.
• Letter from Elder H. L. Gilman, a Minister
of the Gospel in Vermont.
Glover, Vt., June 20, 1359.
Messrs Setu W. Fowle A Co.,—
Gents I hereby certify that I have hem troubled
for several years with a difficulty of the heart and
lungs, and have applied to several physicians for help,
and have tried almost every remedy of the numerous
ones which have been recommended without receiving
any assistance; but had been growing weaker and
weaker, until, hearing of Wistar’s Balsam of Wild
Cherry about a year since, I commenced using it with
immediate relief. It has not only restored my lungs to
a sound state, but I am entirely relieved of the diffi
culty or disease of the heart. I have no hesitation in
saying that it is the best lung medicine before the pub
lic, and I most cheerfully and conscientiously recom
mend it to all persons suffering with_ pulmonary com
plaints. ”

Washington, Jan. 15.—In the Senate to-day, Mr.
Crettenden’s Union resolutions were taken up;a conver
sational debate ensued, when the resolutions were laid
aside to make waylorthe Pacific Railroad bill. Mr
Crittenden, in thrilling words and accents,; endeavored

heeded.
The Pacific Railroad'bill was amended and con
tinued over. -r, 1
The House debatedithe Army bill, Mr. Reagan, o 1
Texas, and Mr. Anderson, of Missouri, taking the side
of the South. The latter disapproved precipitating the
Gulf Slates into disunion, and favored a Border State
Convention.
Mr. Stanton, of Ohio, repudiated the inference that
it was part ol the Republican principles to interfere
with slavery in the States. He was .willing to amend
the Const Ration, and guard ggainst any interference
with slavery, except with the consent ol all the States.
He was also willing to admit New. Mexico, which has
a slavery constitution.
Mr. Adrain, of New Jersey, made a conciliatory
speech. He would make concessions and compromises,
but would never permit secession.

North Carolina Election.
Raleigh, Jan. 15.—The Senate has been engaged all
day on the Convention bill without coming to a vote
The debate was clieifly on details, and there was no in

The House speut the day in discussing the coercion
resolutions. They split on the details; various amend'

was taken. Ali are opposed to coercion, but some are
against the right of secession. The debate occasioned
some excitement.

Gentlemen : I consider the effect of the Peruvian
Syrup not more remarkable in my own case than in
that of my wife. Several years since she began to ex
perience occasional tarns of wlmt we at first regarded
the common sick-headaclie. i hese increased upon her
both in severity and frequency. She followed the pre«-
cr.ptions of excellent physicians, all to no purpose, and
was dually assured by her medical attendant that her
case was not such as commonly passes under the name
of eick-headnehe, but a sickness resulting rather from
weakness. She would have a premonition of her sick
ness iu a dimness of sight, wiih floating specks before
her eyes, followed soon by a severe pain la the head,
and then nausea and vomiting of the most distressing
nature. These turns would last Irom twelve to twen-
tv-four hours, and were very prostrating in their ef
fects. For the last few years they were almost inevi
tably induced by over-exertion, or excitement from
any cause, however fclight, even such as were conse
quent upon making and receiving calls.
She resolved on a trial of the Peruvian Syrup It
accomplished what no otker medicine has had power
to do. It stayed her sickness, and from that hour to
this, numbering several months, m the course of which
she lias passed through a hundred experiences that
would previously have induced her distressing sickness,
she has not fe«t the slightest intimation of its approach

BLOOD FOOD! BLOOD FOOD !
Are you despairing ? Have you tried other remedies
and failed ? Do you classify Dr. Bronson’s Blood Food
with other patent medicines ? Listen !
It would be impossible to let you know of the Blood
Food without resorting to advertising. Now, that
quacks resort to the same method to acquaint you wiith
their patent medicines, does not make this preparation
the same style of article at all as theirs. Dr. Bronson
Ls a teacher lu our medical colleges, and a very cele
brated lecturer on physiology ; and his preparations—
not patent medicines—are the result of an old physi
cian’s great experience and knowledge. Then do not
despair. Though you have tried other remedies and
failed, try this and you will surely be cured. Con.
sumptlve ! you may be cured. Unfortunate ’. whose
over-taxed system has brought on eome chronic dis.
ease, numbers suffering as you are, find relief and res
toration to perfect health from the Blood Food. Dys
peptic ! try it. All suffering from Liver Complaint,
male or female weakness, or any complaint caused by
poverty or deficiency of blood, feed your blood with the
Blood Food and be well.
Mothers! Mothers! ! If you value your own com
fort and the health of your children, keep Dr. Eaton’s
Infantile Cordial always in the house. It is sale, free
from paregoric and all opiates, and is a certain remedy
for Diarrhcea, Summer Complaint, and all diseases at
tending teething, and a great assistance in softening
the gums. See advertisement.

TO COTTON PLANTERS.
The result of the late election, for President of the
United States, developes the tact, that there U a party
in power who are seeking control of our consciences,
and the destruction of our property. The events that
are being developed, however, show that the Southern
States will not submit to be ruled by such a power.—
These political difficulties indicate a change in our
Commercial relations with the Northern States, from
whence our supplies have been mostly received, and a
return to a more legitimate and direct trade. To those
who desire to promote this legitimate aud direct trade,
if there are any such, and they are at a loss as to how
to accomplish this object, I will say to them that I will
receive Cotton destined for foreign markets; will
when desired, advance one half the value of the cot
ton, at the port of embarkation ; will have the cotton
shipped to Liverpool, if not otherwise directed, and
sold. The proceeds of sale returned in gold and such
articles of produce as the planter may require. For all
advances, interest will be charged at seven percent—
Charges on the other Bide, the usual commission for
selling cotton and purchasing supplies.

CLARK would say to his patrons
/wggfflXgyu. •- and friends, that he is now prepared, by
the assistance ol one of the best me
chanical Dentists in our country, to give
as much attention to the insertion ol ARTIFICIAL
TEETH as he hasberetof re to the preservation of the
natural ones. His patent method, (patented May,
1S60,) which is now being used by all our best Dentists,
both North and South, enables him to promise a more
easy and perfect fitting plate than can possibly bo made
by the common and uncertain process of making Diee-
By this method the d e is tak n directly from the im
pression of the mouth, thus giving us a die by which
to fit our plates as perfect as the jaw itself.
We are so confiident in our ability to construct a v et-
(er and more comfortable fitting plate by this method
than can possibly be made by any other, that we will
guarantee* every plate that leaves our office to come up
to juet what we say, or else it may be returned at our
loss. tf dec 18
