Thbatru.—Last night, the Lady of Lyons, a
favorite play with our theatre going ccmmuni-
ty, was rendered, as never belore surpass
ed, in its well ordered cast cf characters. Miss
L Bridges, as Pauline, was well sustained in the
f feyuale depanmeaL while Mr. Hubbard, ai
that of the male. The two principal charac
ters, Pauline and Claude Melnotte, were hap
pily conceived, and could not have been pro
duced with bitter effect than they were by Miss
Bridges and Mr. Hubbard.
Mr. Hubbard’s versatility was exhibited fairly
dn the transition from the character of Claude
Melnotte, in the play, to that of Teddy O'
Rourke, in ihe afterpiece.
Committed to Jail.—Geo. W. Beasley and
Robt. M. C. Moore, who were arrested on Tne6’
day night; charged with garroting and robbing
Mr. Geo. W. Law, near the corner of Bay iane
and Barnard street, were brought before his
Honor tfte Mayor yesterday, and turned over to
Justice John A. 8taley, by whom they were
committed to jail to await further examination.
Sergeant Foley arrested the accused at the
corner of Whitaker and Broughton streets soon
after the alarm waskiven by Mr. Law. At the
Barracks they weroi searched . and cn one of
them a pocket handkerchief was found which
was i^tified by Mr. Law as his property.
F. tqk.tj,: with him a lantern searched
i from tie place where the robbery
% committed to where the arrest was made.
Kere he iound the stolen pocket book, con
taining $127.15, wh.cb was also identified ty
Mr. Law.
! Sheep Meat ys Doq Meat.—There was
quite a sensation at the market house yesterday,
caused ty a suspicion as to the identity of a
slaughtered animal, being represented as a
sheep,' brought there and exposed for sale by
two countrymen. Mr. J. A Bessenger, a
bulcher of sheep, was called on for his exami*
nation and decision,/ who pronounced it to be a
dog slaughtered and. dressed to resemble mul-
ton. 'Ihe countrymen and their meat were
brought belore the M^yor, who sent for several
butchers to pass jidement upon it. They de
cided that it was a rhrep, but a very poor one.
Doctors are said toidisagree, why not butchers.
The countrymen were discharged and their
meat thrown into the river. Two other ani
mals of The same sort were sold before this one
was noticed. Thoie who dined on mutton yes
terday, and are judges of it, can decide for
theme elves, the butchers to the contrary not
withstanding.

At e meeting of the Wore county volunteers,
under the cell of the Governor tor 8,000
troops for State defence, committees were ap
pointed to invite the surrounding counties to
unite in the organization of a battalion or reg*
iment. In pursuance of the object contempla
ted, and as Chairman of one of said Commit-
teef, I have had interviews with officers and
members ot the companies ot Pierce, Appling,
Coffee and Clinch, and find them willing to
unite with Ware, in the formation of a
battalion, and with such other counties as
may desire, for the organization of a regiment.
The five counties mentioned can form a bat
talion on tha 4th of August if they wish to so
to do, and in the absence of aDy other means
of bringing about concert of action, and the
proposed organization, it*is suggested by the
committee that the companies of these five
counties proceed on that day, after the com
pany organizations shall have been completed,
to ballot for a Major to command the Lattaliou,
and that the managers of suck electfbn count
the votes polled, and send them, ob the 6tk, to
Blackshesr, by one of the managers, for con
solidation and transmission to the Adjutant
and Inspector General at Milledgeville.
I have examined the question, aid am ad
vised that the organization thus consummated
will be valid, and that the election will be sns-
ta'.ned by the Adjutant General. Should any
one of these counties decline to go into the
organization, 'and four companies shall unite,
the organization will be recognized as a-battal-
lion, and the election will be sustained.
These suggestions are made, and this place
Is proposed in the discharge ol the duty im
posed upon the Committee, and with no view
to keep out the companies of other neighbor
ing counties—all of whom are earnestly invi
ted to join in the organization and send up
their action on the 6U>.
Respectfully submitted,
lairman Committee &r

The moel Christian and enlightened Govern
ment and people of the Caited States of North
America have adopted veiy lingular modes of
exhibiting their vlrtnee to the ontaide barba
rians In the South and ia Europe. We extract
a few items from late Northern paper, to show
how iBflai.ely tender and humane the Yankees
are:
“Washington, July 19 —Agents of States
charged with the care of the wounded come
hither from the field of Gettysburg, and state
that thousands of rebel wounded are yet nnpro-
ridel with shelter or surgical treatment. This
is accounted for from .the fact that onr sur
geons have gone with Gen. Meade’s army.
‘ It is also stated that the War Department
declines to call ont volunteer surgeons from
ihe Northern cities, because of the malpractice
that has resulted from such arrangements
heretofore.”
Sixteen days after the battle, not one or two,
ten or twenty, bat thousands of Sonlhern sol
diers are left on the ground, with no covering
bat the sky, ua surgical treatment, and, doubt
less, little food. The gentle etlixens of Gettye
harg, who looked their pumps up, and eold
water to their own soldiers, pass and repass
these wonaded rebels day after day, and pay no
more attention to them than eo many dying
doge. Indeed, they begin to complain that
dead and wounded rebels smell badly.
“Onr surgeons have gone with Gen. Meade’s
army. Supposing that exci.se to be good,
■*hat are we to make of the other—“the War
Department declines to catl oat volunteer sur
geons from the Northern cities because of the
mat practice that has resulted from such ar
rangements heretotorj.” This meana plainly
thatenrgeone and nurse, from Baltimore are to
be kept Pack an til the wounded rebels have
perithed to a man. History never before re
corded ae instance in which a civilized Gov
ernment interposed to prevent charitable per
sons from aidW the won ded, thereby evlnc
ing Its purpose to murder la cold blood those
who had been mangled in battle. Thla la the
way tb( Yankee humanitarian* raise the black
Sag over the dyiig. Who,can teH the honors
of that luckless field of Gettysburg, and . who
will point tho fiendish form of Lincoln aad
Seward driving off the volunteer surgeons and
names f P
But the Yankee Government is mot eoatent
to murder the woanded only; lt moat kill then
well. also.
Tne Delaware Republican states that there
are now several thousand prisoners at Fort
Delaware, their number .having been greatly
increased within the present week. “The re
bels suffer immensely, many of them being
sick. On Tknraday last no lees than aeren-
teen were interred, having been conveyed to
the adjacent shore ot New Jersey for that pur
pose. By the great addition to the nnmbar of
prisoners, the mortality will be proportionate
ly increased.”
That is right, most Christian Yankees. Kill
off Ihe prisoners in yonr bands as fast as possi
ble; show them no mercy; heap np wrath
against the day of wrath.
It is not to he wondered at that a peapl* eo
peculiarly mild in their treatment of the Con
federate wounded thonid ne^ect their own.
Still, the excessively brutal indifference record
ed in the following statement, strikes ns with
horror and .astonishment: »
- —After the first repulse at Port Hudson, Gen.
Banks sent no flag of truce te bery hie dead,
whleh remilned exposed between the linee for
three days. At the end of that Ume General
Gardner sent a flag to Banks, mquestlng that
he would remove them. Banks replied that he
had no dead there General Gardner then di
reeled General Beale to send a fiag to General
Anger and reqnet . him to boro the dead of his
division, which by in front oftke 1st and 19th.
Anger replied the . he did not think hehad any
dead .’here, hot wonlfLgraat a ceeration of
hostilities to ascertain. Accordingly, parties
were detailed ia pass the dead bodies over te
the Yankee*, end 360 odd were removed* from
THEATRE. -
