Atlanta. Cotton market.
Atlanta, Sept. 12, 1865.
Cotton.—During the week ending yesterday
the cotton market has been dull and droopiDg,
with few transactions. The difficulties in rail
road transportation are the cause of this inactivi
ty. Small lots from the country continue to ar
rive, but v,e have heard of no large transactions.
Prices have ranged from 25 to 81 esntg. The
following quotations exhibit the different grades;
Ordinary 22 cents.

During the latter part of the week the feeling
was aemewhat better, but on the whole onr
market may be considered as exhibiting little or
no buoyancy. Dealers inform us that the bad
condition m which cotton is brought to market
detracts somewhat from its valuation Planters

George Day by Joan Stonaker, a woman living
near Sinizortown, Ky., six miles east of this city.
The mu'der occurred between five and six o’clock
yesterday evening, and the following are said to
have been the circumstances: George Day and
an accomplice, whose name is unknown, started
for the house of the woman %iih the purpose of
murdering ’nor. The unknown man wgs
armed with a double barrel gun, and Day carried
a broad ax. As they were advancing toward the
bouse witl; these deadly implements, their move
ments were observed by the woman; and when
they entered the yard she ran forward and wrest
ed the gun, with the but of which sha fejjed to
the earth the unknown party, and then fired the
contents of one barrel at Day, the shot taking
effect in tie forehead of the would 'be murderer,
and killing him instautjy. After perpetrating the

To Physicians,
New York, Angnst I5th, 1806,
Allow me to call yonr attention to my Preprtrrt*
tion of Compound Extract Buchu, —
The component parts are Bucbu, Long Leaf, Cu-
bebs, Juniper Berries.
MODES at' PREPARATION.—Buchu, in vacno.
Juniper Berries, by distillation, to form a fine gin. Cu-
bebs extracted by displacement by liquor obtained from
Juniper Berries, containing very little sugar, a small
proport on of spirit, and more palatable than any now
in nse. The active properties are by this mode ex
tracted.
Bnchn. as prepared by Druggists generally, is of a
dark color. It is a plant that emits Its fragrance; the
action of a flame destroys this (its active principle),
leaving a dark and glutinous decoction, lime is the
color of ingredients. The Buchn in my preparation
S edominates, the smallest quantity of the other ingre-
ents are added, to prevent fermentation; upon "in
spection it will be found not to be a Tincture, as made
in Pharmacopoea, nor is it a Syrap-and therefore can
lie used in cases where fever or inflammation exists.—
In thfa yon have the knowledge of the ingredients and
the mode of preparation.
Honing that you will favor it with atrial, and that
upon inspection it will meet with your approbation.
With steeling of confidence,
I am, very respectfully,
H. T. HELMB0LD,
