TII6 LONDON QUARTERLY REVIEW (Conservative)
THE EDINBURGH REVIEW (Whig.)
THE WESTMINSTER REVIEW (Radical.)
THE NORTH BRITISH REVIEW (Free Chnrcb.)
AND
BLACKWOblTS KDINURGII MAGAZINE (Tory.)
The American publishers continue to reprint the
above named periodicals, bnt as the cost of printing
has doubled, and tbe price of paper nearly trebled they
are compelled to advance their rates as follows :
Terms for 18B5.
For any one of the Reviews $4 per annum
For any two of t he Reviews T per annum
For any three of the Reviews- 10 per annum
For all four of the Reviews 12 per annum
For Blackwood s Magazine 4 [vr annum
For Blackwood and any one Review.... 7 per annum
For Blackwood and any two of the Re
views 10 per annnm
For Blackwood and three of the Reviews.13 per annum
For Blackwood and the four Reviews.. .15 per annum
The works will be printed on a greatly improved
quality of piper, and while nearly all American Periodi
cals are e ther advanced in price or reduced in size—and
very generally both—we- shall continue to give faith
ful copies of all the matter contained in the original
editions. Hence, our present prices will be found as
cheap, tor the amount of matter furnished as those of
any of the competing Periodicals in this country.
v ompared with the cost of the original editions
which at the present premiums on gold would be about
$100 a year, our prices (15) are exceedingly low. Add
to this the fact that we make our annua! payments to
the British Publishers for early sheets and copyright in
Gold—$1 costing us at this time nearly $2 50 in cur
rency—and we trust that in tbe scale we have adopted
we shall lie entirely justified by oar subscribers and the
reading public.
The interest of these Periodicals to American read
ers is rather increased than diminished by the articles
they contain on our great Civil War, and though some
times tinged with prejudice, they may still, considering
their great ability and the different standpoints from
which they are written, be read and studied with ad
vantage by the people of this country of every creed
and party.

C. L. GILBERT,

New Yoke, August 15th. 1865.
Allow me to call your attention to my Prepara
tion of Compound Extract Bochu,-
The component parts are Buchu, Long 'Leaf, Cu-
bebs, Jnniper Berries.
MODES OF PREPARATION.— Buchu, in vacuo.
Juniper Berrifc, by distillation, to form a fine gin. Cu-
bebs extracted by displacement b7 liquor obtained from
Juniper Berries, containing very little sugar, a small
proport on of spirit, and more printable tnan any now
In use. The active properties are by this mode ex
tracted.
Buchu, as prepared by Druggtsts generally, is of a
dark color. It is a plant that emits its fragrance; the
action of a flame destroys this (its active principle),
leaving a dark and glutinous decoction. Mine is the
color of ingredients. The Buchu in my preparation
predominates, the smallest quantity of the other ingre
dients are added, to jirevent fermentation; upon in-
spection it will be found not to be a Tincture, as made
in Pharmacopoea, nor is it a Syrap —and therefore can
be used in cases where fever or inflammation exists.—
In this you have the knowledge of the ingredients and
the mode of prejsaration.
Honing that you will favor it with atrial, and that
ujxm inspection it will meet with yonr approbation.
