;v General Order No. 15, no further business
of a civil nature can be transacted in this of-
icc: It is ordered that the parties are remitted
to their legal remedies in the civil Courts, and

belonging to the said Engine and Hose Car

A Good Suggestion/ > -
FREEMASONS TO THE RE^llE.
The Louisville Journal publishes a call for a
convention of the representative men of the Order
of FreemasonS'Of the United States Id devise
some means to assuage the temper and bitterness
of feeling between the North and South. The
call, whioh is signed by Charles Wintersmith, P.
G. M. and P. G. H. P., of Eentncky, says:
•‘If our great doctrines of fraternity, Justice in
magnanimity and mercy, nniversal benevolence,
and pure charity, were only generally, compre
hended in all their bearings, and felt as senti
ments beneficent and active, and realized in ac
tion, wbat a change would come over this world.
If this could occur in an instant it would be like
that effulgence which burst upon the darknese of
chaos when God said ‘Let there be light’
“The trumpet would no longer be heard sum
moning hostile and belligerent squadrons to the
field of carnage and death, but the sons of the
affections, in soft and dulcet strains, would re
gale the ear of smiling and oontented peace with
their sweet and liquid melody. The mad and
restless spirit of selfish ambition wonld no longer
struggle for preferment and aggrandizement at
the sacrifice of probity and honor, but a noble
emulation would ineite all to make most v&lnable
oon ributions to the general welfare.
“Envy, malice, hatred, anger and revenge
would go howling down to their native hell, and
friendship, sympathy, and love wonld so harmon
ize mankind as to lift them np to as high an ele
vation as human power could effect, and would
proclaim io songs of rejoicing a perennial and un
iversal jubilee ”
You, brethren, are a body of representative men
of an Order which is and should be dedicated to
these high callings; and as such I propose to you
to assemble at some central locality at an early
day, for the purpose of consnltion upon our da-
ties and responsibilities in the present state of the
affairs of a common country and society. I won d
suggest the second Monday in October, at Louis*
ville, as the time and place.
You will, of course, oonvene not as politicians
ambitions of place and power and mastery, but
as patriots and humanitarians, anxious only to
restore harmony, pacification, unity, order, and
amelioration, upon principles consistent with the
magnanimity, moderation, honor, dignity of the
highest civilization aud Christianity.
If you should thus assemble with pure hearts
and minds intent npon the high objects indicated,
you may achieve mnoh Separated, you can
accomplish little; but, associated, yon may per
haps agree upon some mode of action which will
redound in immense benefit. Upon calm, dis
passionate, and kindly conference and discussion,
the chances greatly favor the presumption that
you may advise and proclaim some just, liberal
and elevated propositions upon which all may
unite in adjustment and amelioration.
If so, the grand desired objects may bo tran
quilly, and honorably, and magnanimously
achieved, and you may have the consolation of
being great contributors to a great general good.
It wonld be to yon a permanent happiness,
and the rulers of the land, and the people
and posterity, will rise up and with one heart call
yon blessed.
