The Steamship Halelfh
This line sj>ecinien of naval architecture
made her appearance at our wharves at an
turlv hour yesterday. She is intended for the
Savannah and New York Line, of which John
i; Wilder, Esq., is agent in this city. The
K-dt'iph is a first-class side-wheel steamship,
i-- f ee t in length, 35 feet breadth and 19 feet
sk] :!i of hold, nnd was built in Brooklyn,New
York, bv the celebrated builders, Messrs. Flo
rence .i Fo’ilks. She is provided with two low
pressure tubular boilers, one low pressure en
j:inc of 44-inch cylinder and 11 feet stroke, two
f .n e pumps of 44-inch cylinders and 55-inch
stroke, which are worked by the main engine,
two fire pumps of 6-inch stroke. She carries
: ur metalic life-boats, and is in every respect
Veil provided for the safety of her passengers.
The engines and machinery are from the Mor
gan Iron Works.
Her arrangements for the comfort and ac
commodation of passengers are ample and
inplete. There arc twenty-five state rooms
containing fifty-four berths in all, and ample
means for furnishing thirty-three steerage pas-
M’ngers with bed and bedding. Her after and
forward saloons are finished off in the neatest
5 rvle. The staterooms arc spacious and are fin
ished with all the latest improvements for the
convenience of passengers. A fine promenade
deck, oue hundred and thirty feet long, will
attract th„ attention of those fortunate enough
to secure a passage on her. The lovers of the
fragrant “Havana” will find, for their conve
nience, a well arranged and commodious
snicking room.
•The Raleigh is commanded by that expe-
ri;t:cdd sailor and agreeable "gentleman, Capt-
li. M. Walker, late first officer of the steam
ship Fulton. Her Purser, Mr. J. It. Saussy,
is too well known to the travelling public to
need commendation from oar hands.
The Raleigh, wc understand, is the first of
several new side wheel steamers that are soou
t,i be placed upon this popular line, and the
flattering success that has greeted the above
line at this end of the route must be attribu
ted to the vigilance, energy and ^reat business
promptitude of John R. I Rider, Esq., whose
courtesy and integrity is proverbial- We wish
the lvaleigh as profitable and safe a retnrn
iriji as was her maiden voyage from New
York. The Raleigh sails at three o'clock
Saturday afternoon.
Business I'uder (lie Bluff.
A lively scene was witnessed under tnc Bluff
jc?terday. Throe stoainships of the first class
arrived from New York, and the hurrying to and
rr. of dray.», carta, carriages, omuibuaae8, Ac.,
presented quite a lively appearance. The fine
new siJewheel steamship Raleigh, of the Savan
nah aui New York Line, first made her appeaj-
ance, followed in cloee proximity by the well
known Zodiac, of the ‘ Pioneer Line," and Amer
ica, of the --Star Line."
Savannah, as regards her commercial marine,
i* now in the front rank as a commercial mart,
and has reason to be proud of her position. She
can now boast of three lines of steamships to
New York, consisting of eleven steamships, acd
one to Pniladelphia. These vessels are all of the
first class, and were built expressly for tbo South
ern tr.de, for which tney aro admirably adapted.
They are all commanded by officers of known
experience and gentlemanly qualifications, and
aro very popular with the business and travel
ling co i munity.
Bold Bobbery.
The house of Mr. Watson,;*itu*ted on Charlton
near Lincoln street, was entered on Monday
night last, and ail the chairs, silver ware, a lot of
children’s clothing and ’ other articles removed
tnerefrom. No clue to the perpetrators of this
h ud theft has yobbeen- discovered. It is evident
tnut our city is inlested with a band of experi-
■ . :ed and desperate thieves, and housekeepers
aa i others should be on their guard. The police
l ave been very vigilant of late, and we hope
their efforts may b j directed to the arrest of some
. these numerous gentry who have been doing
Eu h a good business of late, in the way of en
tering dwellings and stores, and appropriating
the property of others to their own use and bone
s' arc satisfied that if but one arrest could
be effected, such an example would be made as
ft.uid effectually deter others from pursuing a
:^e course, and render more secare the persons
acl property of oar citizens.
Sad Accident.
W e learn that on Tuesday night, shortly after
■‘ving Frederika, Mr. Henry Burroughs, a pas
tier on board the steamer Fountain, being
tailed from the cabin, a search was instituted for
him. but he could no where be found. It is pre-
urnui th ii^h > unfortunate young man accideu-
‘ally fell oftrboard and was drowned.
Mr. Burroughs was the son of Rev. Benjamin

Allow me to call yonr attentfou to my Prepara
tion of Compound Extract Bscha.-
Thccomponent partKare Hncliu, Long t^i; Cu
be b«, Juniper Berries.
M'>DiviSuF PREPAltA’l'IuN.—Buchu, In vacuo.
Juniper Berries, by distillation, to form a fine gin. Cu
be!** extracted by displacement by liquor obtained from
Juniper Berries, containing very little sugar, a small
proport on ot spirit, and more palatable than any now
in iw. 1 i»e active properties are by this mode ex
tracted.
Luchu, as prepared by Druggists generally, is of a
dark color. It is a plant that emits its fragrance; the
action of a Home destroys this fits active principle),
leaving a dark acd glutinous decoction. Mine is the
color of ingredients. The buchu in my preparation
predominates, the smallest quantity of the other ingre
dients are added, to prevent fermentation; upon in
spection it will lie found not to be a Tincture, as made
in 1'harmacopoea, nor is it a Syrup—and therefore can
be used in cases where fever or inihunmation exists.—
In this you have the knowledge of the ingredients and
the mode of preparation.
Hoping that you will favor it with atrial, and that
upon inspection >t will meet with your approbation.
With a feeling of confidence,
1 am, very respectfully,
