common and disagreeable “ills the flesh is heir to.” (
This prize obtains its own name from Hie certain
success which has attended it through all of its j
trying circumstances, namely, “live days,”—the i
same success which followed it in a Northern lati- «
lude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula i
or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue (
and hazard by >1 Cheveres, from the celebrated
Indian Chief Warenothe, or Great Moon, whilst -j
he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians. —
Wabcnoshe prized highly anil use it with invariable
success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an aunost c
incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in- I
dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt "
at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the <
Great Spirit, never to divulge the ‘art of its com- ■
position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although *
Irec to use it in their respective tribes, whicli 1
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely *
with, 1 may say, religious confidence on its cura

Wish to know, by any of the agents keeping them

iously looked for, some one in almost the extreme

be made from the stalk, a thing not more absurd (
than for one to offer meal from the corn stalk, to
say nothing of the difficulty of raising the Tomato 6
j so far North.
Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of 1,1
which, ho holds himself bound, and in honor pledg- 81
ed to prove by their use, that they arc all that they 1;

this is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will 1
doubtless be valuable information to families to
know that the Yellow are just doubly as valuable '
as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much \
ol the hapntine, or active principle, and when used '
as a daily vegetable will be found lo keep the
system in much better condition than the other
kind; many will recollect with what trembling H
anxiety calomel has been given to children, and j
how they then wished for a substitute. It lias ,
long been known that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, but not until of late was it
ascertained that they contained alterative and din- ;
retie properties. The Faculty embrace and use j
the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that ,
they know what it is Were it a patent mystery, i
they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they i

Radical Cure »1 Hernia or Rupture, by Dr.

V |NH E subscriber bus opened an office, at the Drug
1 store of .Messrs. J. J. Robertson it Co., for the
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
j ustly celebrated instruments. He lias now used
, them for nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid,
j he could name several persona who have been radi
cally cured, of this duly distressing and dangerous
affection, by the uscof these Trusses, besides manv
others who are in a fairway of being entirely re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee ot the Philadelphia Medical Society on the
Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. t'hasc have effected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every ease of Hernia observed by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
i are usually ventured upon by those who wearother
trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in
struments of Dr. t'hasc to the confidence of
the profession, ns the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chances of radical cure.”
The following is from the Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in ur own citv.
“ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
yet invented to effect the object.”
Persons from a distance can have the instruments
applied, ii|Hin application at the office, and all ne
cessary information given to enable than to adjust
it themselves. The poor, who are laboring under
tliis afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous- 1

The instruments are of all sizes, and applicable 1
to every variety of reducible rupture. 1

Mr. Harrison, I send you a few lines respecting the
almost miraculous effects of your piPs; and I would
a-d, that you may make used them, in connection
with my name, in any manner you deem proper, I
speak of their merits from experience,as 1 and my
family have taken upwards of thirty boxes in three
years ; and so great are the benefits we have receiv
ed from them in general, that I would rather pur
chase them at ten dollars abox than have my house
without them. 1 will not enumerate the afflictions
they have relieved us of; but 1 can assure you they
were many, and of very opposite natures, which
has fully proved to me that your medicine is a sim
ple purifier of the system, and therefore equally
the enemy of every disease. I will mention one
case. I have a sister who had been for a long pe
riod severely afflicted with dropsy in the chest and
was brought by it to the very verge of the grave,
j Site was attended hy the most eminent physicians
that money could procure; but all their dibits to
restore her to health, or even to mitigate her suffer
ings were fruitless ; and accordingly, wc all consid
ered her immediate death as inevitable, tty good
fortune, however, as she was in this situation, ex
pect ng every day to be her last, your pills were
introduced into my family, and so speedy and pal
pable were their effects that three doses visibly re
lieved her, and in less than three months she was
perfectly restored to health. This case, I and all
who were witness of it, (but more especially the
suffering party,) considered to be the next thing to
miraculous; and yet J could mention many more
of an equally desperate nature, in which your pills
were equally successful in rescuing the patients
from tlie jaws of death. Need I add that the popu
larity of your medicine amounts to enthusiasm in
this section of the country } But this I presume
you know from the immense quantity you dispose
of 1 may mention,however,thatnotwithstanding
its general use, I never heard an individual complain
of its effects. My residence is 12 miles from Ral
eigh, on the road to Fayetteville. I am, with sen
timents of regard, your ob’t servant.
A. G. BANKS.
To Dr. Peters, —Sir —For upward' of fifteen
months, 1 have been cmelly afflicted with Fever
and Ague; and during the time rould hnd nothing —
though 1 bad applied to every tiling that gave me
any tiling like permanent relief. At length, how
ever, your pills were recommended to me, by one
of our best ph)sicians, and I am most grateful and
happy in being able to add, that I had scarcely used
two boxes when 1 found that they had restored me
to perfect health. Since then, various members of
my family have used them with equal success—
and consequently 1 feel it my duty to apprise you
of the fact, and to request of you to publish this
certificate, as 1 am anxious to add my public testi
mony to the almost miraculous virtues of your un
rivalled medicine. Respectfully yours,
THEODORE* JAMES.

Communication received from the eminent Dr. J.
H. Irwin of Florence, Georgia:
Dr. J. P. Peters —My Dear Sir —On the night of
the 11th inst., 1 was called in great haste to the
house of a fel ow ci.izen, (Mr. Lee,) where 1 found
his son laboring under a most alarming attack of
Cynanche Tracnealis (Croup) and apparently be
yond the aid of remedy. By the greatest good for
tune, however, 1 had in ray pocket a broken box of
your pills —four of which I administers I, with
such immediate happy effect that in a few minutes
my patient was at case, and out of danger. This
case, in connection with my name is at your ser
vice—and 1 have the pleasure to be able to inform
you that your inestimable medicine is in such great
favor with the faculty here, that I believe there is
not one of them who docs not use it in his private
practice. \ ours most resp’y.

To Dr. Magnin:—My dear friend—l am most
gratified at ihe unprecedented popularity ol your
“Lucina Cordial,” and am able io hear testimony to
its surprising virtue 1 had a patient recently,
1 M , a gentleman oi fortune, who had for
several years abandoned hiroseli in the vortex oi
dissipation ; and was oniy reclaimed from il at
length by the utter prostration of all his virile ener
g.es. He was, indeed, reduced to Ihe last extremity *
ot debility and i isteiessness, for, if an occasional
flash of excitement warmed his system, the ieac-
Uon was almost immediate, and the result pcrlect
prostration. I had applied all the usual nostrums
in such cases ; but, as I had anticipated, without
success; and when I saw the “ Lucjyta Cordial” i
advertised, 1 must confess that even the great weight
of your name did not give me much hope in it, at
least so far as regarded ihe cose in hand. I felt
bound lo try it, howevt r. ami was soon satisfied of
its efficacy; for before a bottle was expended, my
patient gave evidence of the returning elasticity of
his system; and he is now, having used four bottles
as well is ever.
The number of documents, such as the above
which have been received by Mr. Magnin, since the
first appearance of “ Le Cordial de Lucine." would
