human system is such that it invariably acts like
a charm, for the relief a.id radical cure of a certain
common and disagreeable ‘ ills the flesh is heir to ”
This prize obtains its own name from the certain
suctess which has attended it through al l of its
trying circumstances, namely, “five days,”—the
same sun ess which followed it in a Northern lati
i tude still obtains in a more bouthern. The formula
I or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
| and hazard hy 51 Chevcres, from the celebrated
Indian thief Waienotiie, or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuing the luerative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians. —
Wahcnoshe prized highly and use it with invariable
success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an a'most
incredible extent the chi.dren of this war. ike prince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in
dividuals, hut hy parting with copies of his receipt
at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the ‘ait of its com
position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
witV, I may say, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers.
Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can
he anglisized of the deed given by Wahcnoshe, to
VI. CheveretjWhen he purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture
Few white men would credit the length of time
which is consumed in preparing the article for im
mediate use.

This Medicine,! warrrnt bythis publication,un
der a penalty of $5,000, not to contain one parti
cle of corrosive preparation. It is purely vegatu
hlo in its essences. Us first and prominent virtue
is to subdue every vestige of inflamation, and then
arts mildly and copiously as a diuretic; Iherebj
holding within itself, every requisite virtue, for
the subduction of this loathsome ev
ery regular graduate in medicine, will sustain the
assertion, that copious diuresis and reduction of in
flation, are the only two things necessary to effect
a sound and radical cure.
The most peculiar virtue of the “Cinq Jours,”
is in this, that wherever it alone has been used to
affect a cure, none of those tenacious and disagree ■
able consequences which almost invariably results
from Hr 1 sudden cure of Gonorrhoea, have been
known to obtain such as stricture, hernia, Immor
alis, incontinence, and a swarm of other of the 1
most loathsome, perplexing, and disagreeable dis- i
eases, consequent upon erroneous diagnosis and 1
treatment of Gonorrhoea.
Those affected are requested to rail and try for 1
themselves. If the prescriptions are we 1 follow- 1
ed and fail to cure, the money will iu every case he 1
returned. I

TO THE FACULTY ANI> HEADS OF i’
FAMILIES. P
I*ll. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF n
MW TOMATO—a substitute for Calomel, and tl
does not belong to the family of quack medicines;
for file reason that the component parts are made
known to the faculty, or any one else that may
wish to know, hy any of the agents keeping them
for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx
iously looked for, some one in almost the extreme
North has advertised a Tomato Pill, purpoiting to
be made from tlie stalk, a thing not more absurd |
than for one to offer meal from the corn stall., to
say nothing of the difficulty of raising the Tomato P
so far North.
Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of *■
which, he holds himself hound, and in honor pledg- s
ed to prove hy their use, that they are ad that they •
profess to he, and will do for othets what they n
have done for such as mav have used them; as I
this is a vegetable of great use, and value, if will 1
doubtlers be valuable information to families to
know that the Yellow are just doubly as valuable 1
as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much 1
of the hapatine, or active principle, and when used '
as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the
system in much better condition than the other 1
kind ; many will recollect with what trembling *
anxiety calomel has been given to children, and |
bow they then wished for a substitute, it has ,
long been know n that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, hut not until of late was it
ascertained that they contained alterative and diu
retic properties. The Faculty embrace and use
the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that ,
they know what it is Were it a patent mystery, ,
they would he hound to reject the medicine, as they ,
justly do the one thousand and one cure-alls of the
day. If you wish to cleanse the system with a
mild, sa t anti-bilious medicine, use the lomato
Pill, of which a supply, we learn, will soul be in
this city. Wc all know something about this.

Radictil Cure «lHernia or Rupture, by i)r.
Chase’s Improved Surgeons’ Trusses.
fINH E subscriber has opened an office, at the Drug
1_ store of Messrs. J. J. Robertson & t'o., for the
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
ustly celebrated instruments. He has now used
them for nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid,
he could name several persons who have been radi
cally cured, of this truly distressing and dangerous
affection, by the use of these Trusses, besides many
others who are in a fairway of being entirely re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee ol the Philadelphia Medical Society on the
Radical l ure of Hernia.
“ she increments of Dr. Chase have effected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
are usually ventured upon by those who wearuther
trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the conbdcnce of
the profession, as the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
i highest chances of radical cure.”
The fol owing is from the Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in ur own citv.
“ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia,
and that Dr, Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
yet in vented to effect the object.”
Persons from a distance ran have the instruments
applied, upon application at the office, and all ne
cessary information given to enable them to adjuf;
it themselves. The poor, who are laboring under
this afflicting complaint will be treated gratuitous
ly upon presenting a certificate, from sumeresponsi
ble person, of their pecuniary disability.
The instruments are of al sizes, and applicable
to every variety of redncibl* rupture,

The following was forwarded to Dr. Peters, by a
high! v respectable Planter of Wake County, No
Ca, March 3d, 1838:
Dr. Peters —Dear Sir, —By requestor your agent,
Mr. Harrison, I send you a few lines respecting the
almost miraculous effects of your piPs; and 1 would
a-d, that you may make use ol them, in connection
with my name, in any manner you deem proper, I
speak of their merits from experience,as 1 and my
family have taken upwards of thirty boxes in three
years; and so great are the benefits we have receiv
ed from them in general, that I would rather pur
chase them at ten dollars a box titan havemy house
without them, i will not enumerate the afflictions
they have relieved us of; but 1 can assure you they
were many, and of very opposite natures, which
has fully proved to me that your medicine is a sim
ple puriner of the system, and therefore equally
the enemy of every disease. 1 will mention one
case. I have a sister who had been for a long pe
riod severely afflicted with dropsy in the chest and
was brought by it to the very verge of the grave.
She was attended by the most eminent physicians
that money could procure; tut all their efforts to
restore her to health, or even to mitigate her suffer
ing-- were ftuitless ; and accordingly,we all consid
ered her immediate death as inevitable. By good
fortune, however, as she was in this situation, ex
pect ng every day to he her last, your pills were
introduced into my family, and so speedy and pal
pable were their effects that three doses visibly re
lieved her, and in less than three months she was
perfectly restored to health. This case, I and all
who were witness of it, (but more especially the
suffering party,) considered to be the next thing to
miraculous; and yet I could mention many more
of an equally desperate nature, in which your pills !
were cqua'ly successful in rescuing the patients'
from the jaws of death. Need I add that thepopu- |
larity of your medicine amounts to enthusiasm in :
this section of the country ? But this I presume
you know from the immense quantity you dispose
of I may mention, however,thatnotwithstandiug
its genera I use,l never heard an individual complain
of its effects. My residence is 12 miles from Ral
eigh, on the road to Fayetteville. I am, with sen
timents of regard, your ob’t servant.
A. G. BANKS.
To Dr. Peters, —Sir—For upward 0 of fifteen
months, 1 have been c.uelly afflicted with Fever]
and Asrue -, and during the time could find nothing— j
though I had app.i d to every thing that gave me |
any tiling like permanent relief. At length, how- ]
ever, your pills were recommended to me, by one I
of our best physicians, and I am most grateful and
happy in being able to add that 1 had scarcely used j
two boxes when 1 found that they had restored me I
to perfect health. Since then, various members of !
my family have used them with equal success— 1
and consequently 1 feel it my duty to apprise you '
of the fact, and to request of you to pubdsh this
certificate, as lam anxious to add my public testi
mony to me aimuHi miraculous virtues of your un
rivalled medicine Respectfully yours,
THEODORE JAMES.

Communication received from the eminent Dr. J.
H. Irwin of Florence, Georgia:
Dr. J. P. Peters—My Dear Sir—On the night of
the 11th inst., 1 was called in great haste to the
house of a fel ow ci.izen, (Mr. Lee,) where I found
his son laboring under a most alarming attack of '
Cynanche Tracnealis (Croup) and apparently be- j
yond the aid of remedy. By the greatest good for- I
tune, however, 1 had in my pocket a broken box of '
your pills —four of which I adininistere 1, with
such immediate happy effect that in a few minutes 1
| my patient was at ease, and out of danger. T his
| case, in connection with my name is at your ser- j
vi<e—and 1 have the pleasure to be able to inform
you that your inestimable medicine is in such great '
favor with the faculty here, that I bel eve there is
not one of them who does not use it in his private
practice. N ours most resp’y.

FIN HE great celebrity of this unrivalled Compo
-1 siiion, especially in the Northern States, leaves
the proprietor hut little need to say at.y thing in its
favor; for it. has been generally encoded to it,that
il is beyond all comparison the oest remedy for ex
ternal complaints that has ever been discovered.
Indeed the.specd and certainty of its operations,
have the appearance of miracles : as ulcers, wounds,
corns, lever sores, chilblains, white swellings, biles,
piles, spider and snake bites. &c. Ac., immediately
yield to its superhuman influence Thus, il prop
erly applied it will remove an i'lvcteratc corn or
break and heal a bile in live days, will allay and
perfectly cure an ulcer in I ivo weeks, and the most
desperate cases of white swelling that can be ima
go ed have been destroyed hy it in less than two
months. In the hues of poisonous reptiles its effi
cacy is truly surprising, and if applied in time, its
powers ol attraction are so wonderful that they will
at once arrest the poison and thus prevent it from
perva nng the syso m It is likewise greatly supe
rior to any medicine heretofore discovered for the
chafed hark and limbs of horses—lor tetters, ring
worms, chapped lips—and in short, for every extei
nal bodily evil that may fall to the lot of man or
beast.
