TJNHE Board of Trustees of the Academy of j[ Richmond county wid proceed, on Saturday, the 14th of December next, to elect a Teacher for the Branch at Summerville; previous to which time applicants for the appointment will please semi in their names, together with tlieir recom mendations, to the undersigned. The village of Summerville is situated upon the Sand Hills, three miles Horn Augusta, and is un surpassed for health by any other locality in the country-. There are upon the premises attached to the Academy a comfortable dwelling, sufficient for the accommodation of the Teacher and a few boarders, a never failing well of pure water, and all necessary out buildings. The compensation of the Teacher will be the whole of the tuition money; the rate of which per quarter he win be at liberty to fix, and the use of the Academy, dwelling and other buildings. The object of the Trustees is to make the school a permanent one; and considering Ihe many advan tages of the situation, they feel every confidence that it may he made profitable under the manage ment of a well qualified instructor. No particular mark remembered about the pocket book or any of the bills, except one, which was a five dollar bill on the Brunswick Bank, payable at the principal bank, the right hand end of which, together with the President’s name, was entirely torn olf. Said negro is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high,quite black, spare-made, quick ir. his move ments, answers readily and quickly when spoken to, speaks broken in his dialect, has some signs of the small pox. I know of no other marks, as 1 have owned him but a short time previous to his-elope ment. lie is fond of music, and is remarkable for. his expertness in keeping time with it by means of two small paddles or sticks, which he uses in one > hand between his fingers. The above named negro left me in Baldwin coun county, Ga.,in July, 1837, and has been seen since in the lower part of Jones county, and is probably now lurking about Macon, Augusta, or Charleston, 8. There is an inexhaustible supply of the finest Granite on the premises, and Pitch Pine Timber in abundance ; it is at the head of the Cotton market, where the raw material can be obtained without the heavy ex penses of transportation, insurance, receiving and' forwarding commissions, wharfage. &c. It has hitherto met a market for. its products, almost ex clusively at home. Tlie Mill is built on the most approved plan, of granite, 290 feet by 46, four sto ries high,and is now buthalf filled with machinery. The Machinery is of the very best description antfc finish. The Slaves are trained to the operations of the Mill. The Louisville, Cincinnati, and Charleston Rail Road, is expected-to be completed to Columbia, in the course of a year, which will greatly facilitate the transportation and delivery of its manufactured goods.
