This may certify, that 1 have this year planted
the “Okra or Twin < otton,” and seen it growing !
in various other places. From the observation of !
others, as well as my own, I have no hesitancy in :
recommending it as th* most productive Cotton I
have ever seen on thin land, —its yield from the .
Gin head, and the quality of its staple, very far
cxcclls the Petit Gulf or Mexican Cotton. If ■;
planted in three feet rows, 1 believe it capable of ;
producing SOOOlbs. per acre. J. IL Taylor.
This will certify, that I planted a small qua ntity
of the Okra or Twin Cotion, and believe it ca] table
of producing, if properly planted, 3000 to 360 Olbs.
per acre. I made toe following experiment .as to
its yield from the (Jin bead: 4261b5. Okra Co Iton
produced 1561b5. lint, —4251b5. Petit Gulf Co tton
produced 1241b5. lint, making 321bs. lint from .that
quantity in favor of the Okra Cotton. 1 not only
believe this cotton vastly superior in product to
the Petit Gulf, bnt much so in the quality of its
staple ; it also matures much earlier.
November 23, 1839 Jesse P. Taylor,
This may certify, that I planted jjths of an acre !
in the “Okra or Twin Cotton,” from which I have
picked lOOOlbs. of cotton, of a very superior quality, ;
and which land 1 do not believe capable of pro
ducing over 300 to 6001bs per acre of the Petit
Gulf or Mexican Cotton, owing to its thirsty na
ture. The great advantage of the Okra *r Twin
Cotton upon such land is its long tap root, which
is from two to three times the length of the ordi
nary cotton. J. W. T. Reid, Shff. M. C.
November 27, 1839.
Montgomery, November 23,1839.
This will certify,—l have seen the “Multi-boiled,
Twin, Okra, or Bluster Cotton” growing in this
vicinity, and believe it not only superior in product,
but in staple, lo any other cotton I have ever seen,
except the Sea Island, or Black Seed.
F. M. Gilmer, Jr.
Montgomery, November 26, 1839.
Having been called upon to certify (officially) as
to the character and standing of the gentlemen
whose names are to the above certificates, relative
to the Okra or Twin Cotton, itallbrds me pleasure
to certify that they are gentlemen of respectability
and high standing h society, and most of them
practical planters, and in whose opinions upon
the Okra or Twin Cotton I fully concur, having
made a small experiment with it, which has fu'ly
satisfied me of the great advantagis it possesses
over the Mexican or Petit Gulf Cotton

g|NHE 'Trustees of this institution are happy to
X have it in their power to> state, that both the
principal Academy in Augusta, and the branch at

Mr, EiiNENeuTScn, the Hector of the Academy,
already favorably known to the community, has
charge of the Classical department ami all the
branches of education requisite for admissrm to
our best Colleges. His attainments as a scholar
and success in imparting useful knowledge, emi

Mr. Ring, the principal English Teacher, re
cently engaged by the Board 1 , comes with the high
est recommenda'runs as to character, talents, lite
rary attainments ami skill im teaching, and the
Trustees feel assured that he will sustain the re
putation which led to Ins selection.
The branch of the Academy at Summerville is
under the immediate management of Mr. Fbank
i.in Geohge, a gentleman of experience in teach
ing, and highly recommended. The advantage of
the location of ttiis branch of the Academy in one
of the most healthful neighborhoods in the State,

On the wliolc, the Board confidently recommend
to the public the principal Academy and the Branch
at Summerville, as being on a better fooling than
they have heretofore been, and promising great
i usefulness to those-who may avail themselves of
the advantages which they offer.
