New York, Oct. 7.—The steamer Ohio
arrived here this morning from Chagrea. She
brings 450 passengers, $1 400,000 worth of
gold dust on freight, and about six hundred
thousand dollars worth in the hands of passen
gers. The Ohio also brines the Pacific mails,
but nothing later from California, than brought
by the Prometheus. Among the passengers
are Capt. Stoddard and the crew of the La
fayette, which vessel on the 10th, while pre
paring to leave for San Juan was burnt to the
water’s edge and sank in 9 fathoms water.
She had on board a supply of coal and a
quantity of freight for San Juan consisting of
dry goods, liquors, spices, &c. The loss is
heavy.
The Ohio met the Northerner in the port of
San Diego, bound for San Francisco. A
number of the passengers had mutinied and
endeavored to take control of the vessel, but
they were speedily put in irons.
The Isthmus was infested with robbers, and
many passengers had lost every thing. A
gang of fourteen bandits attacked the gold train,
but the money was subsequently recovered
and two of the robbers captured.'

SANDS’ BAUSAPA KILL A
IN QUART BOTTLES,
FOR THE REMOVAL and permanent cure
of all Diseases arising from an impure state of
the Blood, or habit of the System.
Among the many end important discoveries ot this
generation, is one whose fame will be written, es with
a sunbeam, in the history of the past. SANDS’ BAR
SAPAKILLA stands forth alone, and by its own works
proclaims its power—that mute eloquence so irresisti
bly affecting in the apneals of the suffering for relief,
has been answered. Thousand* of cases of diseases
hare been cured by this invaluable medicine, such as
are not furnished in the records of time. These thinge
are not done in secret places, or in some unknown
town, but are performed in our principal citiee and
public places. They are broaght before the world to
substantiate, beyond doubt, the healing virtues of this
preparation'; and the facts unfolded, although gigantic
are as plain as the light of day.
The Sarsaparilla is combined with the most effectu
al aids, the most salutary productions, the mostpoten’
simples of the vegetable kingdom ; and its unprece
denied success in the restoration to health of those who
had long pined nnder the most distressing chronic ma
ladies, has given it an exalted character—furnishing,
as it does, evidence of its own intrinsic value, and re
commending it to the afflicted in terms the afflicted
only can know. It has long been a most important de
sideratum in the practice of medicine, to obtain a
remedy similar to this—one that would act on the
Liver, Stomach, and Rowels with all the precision
and potency of mineral preparations, yet without any
of their deleterious effects upon the vital poweis ot
the system. Although possessed of powerful heal
ing properties, it is entirely harmless, and will not
injure the most delicate constitution. When in per
fect health, no effect is produced by its use, except an
increase of appetite ; but when disease is seated in the
frame, and carrying fast its victim along tne path of
life, then its mysterious influence is felt and seen ; it
enkindles new life and vigor, and brings health and
strength to the suffering and diseased.
BCROFULOUS AFFECTION OF THE EVES.
Winchester, Ky., Oct. 20, 16411.
A. B. A D. Sands—Gentlemen: 1 would not have
presumed to wrile to you, if it was not my duty to let
the public know the almost miraculous effect your
Sarsaparilla has had upon me. My limbs were cover
ed with ulcerous sores, so that I could not walk during
the whole Bpi ing and Bummer. In this situation I
commenced the use of your Sarsaparilla, and aftei
taking two bottles was entirely cured, I must also
tell you of another wonderful curt. My brother was
afflicted with this scrofula in his head, so had his phy
sician told him the loss ol his sight was inevitable,
and permanent blindness seemed to be his fate, three
bottles entirely restored his sight, and we cannot but
recommend all similarly afflicted to use .Sands’ Sarsa
parilla. Yours, truly, Bbnj. F. Uocknbk.
ITS POPULARITY ABROAD.
FROM SOUTU AMERICA,
Maracaibo, Venexuela, April 12th, 1849. gj
Messrs. Sands—Gentlemen ; 1 consider it a dirty due
the public to make known the great benefit I have re
ceived from using your valuable Sarsaparilla. About
thres years since I was attacked with Rheumatism in
my shoulders, and also in my legs, and so sever* was
the pain, that 1 was nnabie to sleep. I tried all of the
best medicines I could hear of without receiving any
benefit, until through the advice of a friend i procured
tome ot your Sarsaparilla, and after using four bottles
in the course of fiitecn days, I found myself entirely
well. 1 have uo hesitation in saying your Sarsaparil
la is the best medicinel ever took, and can confidently
recommend it to my friends and tne public,
Your obedient servant. J. M. J*SV*W-
Here is another, nearer home. „
New York, Jan 8,1660.
Mem*. Sands—Gentlemen: 1 have great plea*
acknowledging to you the great benefit 1 have receiv
ed from the use of your Sarsaparilla. A subject of
pulmonary disease,! made a voyage to Europe, but
whilo there continued to be afflicted. A few weeks
after my return. 1 was teixed with a violent hemor
rhage of the lungs, andfrom the debility and great pros
tration ol strength that followed, with the protracted
difficulty of respiration, lam entirely relieved by the
use of your Sarsaparilla, which 1 consider a most im
rortant and truly valuable discovery in the healing
art. I feel that 1 nave not for fourteen years enjoyed
good health as at present.
Very gratefully yours, 8. E Skymork.
