Cows Going 7\t Ijargc.
The half-fed cows which prowl about.
the streets in search of food are a great j
nuisance tit this season of the year. The j
wagoners who have shucks and other
provender for their teams, must find 1
the amount filched from thpm by town |
cows, a considerable tax, as well as an
annoyance. It would be well to prohib
it stock from going at large during the
winter months.
Ah Uninvited Visitor.
As one of our good-humored subscri
bers was seated in his elegant drawing
room, the other evening, reading the
Dispatch, he was suddenly interrupted by
the turbulent entrance of a delerious bi
ped, who was hunting around to find
out.who struch Billy Patterson. The
fell- attempted to whip the colored
valet who resisted his entrance, and the
gentleman of the house had to interfere
tj eject him. The police officers took
him ii i lmrge and gave him lodgings
a*, the city’s hotel.
Mexican
The New Orleans papers of the 25t1i,
bring detaila of a terrible state of thiDgs
. in Mexico. This rebellion has been in
progress for some time, and on Sunday,
the 9th inst., it assumed an organized
.shape, one wing under Juarez, called
the IJltra-Puro” party, and the other
the Santa Annaists, under Zuloaga, who
.' was formerly at the head of the Com
-r onfort party.
) Proclamations were issued, and the
people rallied, some to one side anti
' some to the other, while very many
( stood loyal to Comonfort, or indifferent
to the whole procedure. And strange
•: as it may seem, the latter class number
; the great portion of the native Mexi
? cans, who in the midst of the can
s
:> nonaiiinj;, are seen chatting and smut
ting in cases and protected quarters of
the city.
"f The Santa Annaists were fortunate
i enough in the beginning to get posses-
V sion of the citadel, the convent of San
1 Domingo, and that of San Augustin ;
. ; the Radicals adopted a guerrilla sort of
J warfare, with a free range of the stiects.
1 which they barricaded as occasion might
(.’require; while th 3 government party
. held the balance of tile city.
> There appeared, at first, a sort of hes
itation to coine hand to hand. Kiriug
!; was kept up all over the city, from the
streets, and the house tops, but no com
bined movement was made. The Santa
| ,Annaists contented themselves with for
,tifying their position, and Comonfdrl
hesitated; in the meantime the Uadi
cals seemed to have the city all
' , to themselves, and continued to fan
Dkc flames of popular fury by intern
perate appeals.
