By reference to the advertisement ini anothercolumn, it will be seen that the! proprietor of the Panorama of the Rus-1 sian War, will distribute twenty-live gifts among the audience nt Concert Hall on to-morrow night. Here is an opportunity to witimjs-this interesting I Whibition, and alifD a chance for thosej 'Veto are fond of tiding risks, to receive j ''a gift worth many times the amount paid for ftilmiasion.^/ La Rachel Cigars. We acknowledge the receipt of a box of very superior—we were about to say delicious—cigars, of this new brand, from Messrs IVA.vtio.nao & Hi bbard, family grocers. Weconscientiously en dorse these cigars, as to our taste, the most pleasant we have ever used, and we recommend all who have a weakness for the weed, to try them. gU" <) nu or two, or as many dozen for ! that matter, who may wish to enjoy ; this delicious spring weather, by auj evening or morning buggy or carriage drive, can he accommodated with swift; and gentle horses, and smoothly going; vehicles, at the Livevy Stable of Messrs.! Heckbe & Wir-sox, on Ellis street, be tween Jackson and Mclntosh. The Spring Tiatle. We a few days since called attention; to some of the h ading branches of busi-l ness, in which our market is supplied; with heavy stocks. In the haste of writing we omitted many important branches of trade, well represented here. I Among these maybe mentioned crocke ry, boots and shoes, leather and find ings. Indeed, a visit among the houses, of our city will satisfy those who have hitherto gone farther, that they will 1 find no difficulty in suiting themselves I in all respects as well here its elsewhere. Some of our merchants import their goods direct from foreign countries, on, as favorable terms as any houses in the; Union. Our leading business men are' men of large experience in trade : their! .mods uve all laid in expies.-ly adapted to the wants of the people ; theykeip; full stocks, amply sufficient for ar.v I emergency likely to occur, and we are assured that it is their determination to j offei their goods at such prices as can u-.t fail to give satisfaction. We believe many of our up country friends who are in the habit of going through and making their purchases! at the North, without looking in upon! us, are mistaken in supposing that they, are doing better. They do not, we ap prehend, take the pains to make an ac curate comparison of prices, nor a prop er estimate of the saving in travel, in exchange, freights, drayage, dockage, insurances, forwarding commissions &e. Added to tills, all must agree that there is more congeniality of feeling and sentiment, and a greater degree of liberality among the merchants of Augusta, and that it is hut right and propei that Georgia should be eneour aged and built up, so far as is practica-i hie, particularly when it can be done I without a sacrifice of interest. —— Interesting Lectures—Prof. O. s, Fort ier and Phrenology. The advent of Rrof. Fowler is one of no little importance to any place. I’hre nology is growing rapidly in the respect of the enlightened world. In fact, no man claiming reputation for education dure openly discredit its fundamental principles. It is also true that there is a class of ed ucated people who discredit the “ minutiae " claim for the science by its Professors. Now, the ‘ 'mini;tia-'' of any science holds good in theory, the same as the generalities, but the jracti ralnlily of the minuter, depends entirely | upon the skill of the manipulator. But whatever there he in the science, hut few men living ought to know bet i ter than 0. S. Fowler. He gives a course of six lectures this week at Ma sonic Hall. This evening the introduc tory one will be free. The professional visit of 0. S. Fowler to any place is an honor, and a full course of lectures is flattery. We give all science lovers due notice of their opportunity. Many people misinterpret the princi plcsof Phrenology, and that is thegreat ! est hindrance to a belief in it. Its fun | damental principles may he stated in < these few words : The brain is the or gan of mind ; the mind is complex, and : each o'its faculties has a cerebral (brain) organ, and is supported by some phyn i ail condition ; and that Physiology and Phrenology- a “sound mind and a sound body ”—are essentially united. ; Prod. 0. S. Fowler was the first man in this country to take up and dissemi natc Pluenology. Indeed, this country is indebted to Fowler & Wells for its universal intelligence on the science.— 1 heir publications have been sown i broadcast and with a lavish hand. 0. S. ! Fowler, a young man, more than a l quarter of a century ago, was then , called by a celebrated Pennsylvania j judge “the daddy of the American j Phrenologists.” Since that time liim j self and brother have been incessantly , in the field ; have written and publish j ed hooks, edited and published journals, established a large house, and have cx j atniued tens of thousands of heads. In their professional tours they are so well 1 patronized that they carry with them a ’) couple of short hand reporters to report | their delineations of character as they are given, to supply those who require ! written opinions. Prof. Fowler’s Lecture. The first of the series of lectures on Phrenology and Physiology by this dis tinguished champion of tho science j will be free, and will be delivered to-night j at Masonic Hall, commencing at half | past seven. It will embrace the Princi. : pies, Proofs, and Uses, of Phrenology .; as applied to Life, Health, Signs of j Character, &c., according to the follow j ing synopsis, which we copy from the 1 Programme of tho evening.
