The public appearance of the “Augusta Amateur Minstrels/’ at Con cert Hall, has been postponed until to-monow (Wednesday) evening, on account of the non-arrival of one of the leading members of the company, who # is absent from the city. The trains on yesterday and to-day, brought down large delegations from the up country, composed of stock holders and their families, and many fine looking young men, supposed to lie in the wild hunt after families. We wish them all a pleasant and successful sojourn among us. Our citizens and city belles arc always glad to see their country cousins, and will, we know, show them around gallantly. Wo learn that there will he a hop at tl: • Plan ter-; Hotel on Wednesday night, of which the said young men, on the wild hunt, will make a note, and gov ern themselves accordingly. Young Mo*’* Bible Class. A Bible Class, for young men, was or ganized last night, at the Young Men’s Christian Association. It is to meet at 5 o’clock Sunday evening, at the rooms of the Association. O ,ft. Railroad Convention* This body convened to-day, at 11 o’clock in the Masonic Hall, lion. John P. King, President, Dr. J. Milligan, Cashier Georgia Railroad and Banking Company, and Mr. M. Boiscl.uk, Book Keeper, in the stand, lhc Convention was called to order by John P. King, when Mr. Boisclair called the roll ot stockholders. The Committee on Proxies were ap pointed .vhen the Convention adjourned till 3 o’clock, P. M. The number of stockholders present was about seventy. Richmond Superior Court. Yesterday was consumed in the trial of the case of the State vs. H. Roe, charged with the offence of assault with intent to murder. The Jury returned the following verdict at a late hour: ■ •We, the Jury, find the defendant guilty of stabbing, hut recommend him to the ligiitest punishment the Court tan consistentlv impose,." Ikerosene Oil. The attention of the reader is direc ted to the advertisement of Mr. Robert, agent for the sale of Kerosene Oil. It is proper to say that the oil sold by him differs materally from that which oc casioned the sad accident on .Saturday. His off will not ignite—the other will, as we have tested. Whethsr the same danger exists from the gas of each, we cannot say.—lt is well known that the gas used by all gas companies, will ex plode if brought in contact with fire in , a room where it has been allowed to escape. The Kerosene is unquestionably a cheap light, and we refer those who wish to satisfy themselves of its explo sive qualities to Mr. Robert. We do not wish to advise anybody in the mat er. t * •». A Camp Incident. Mr. Editor: While you are giving to the public many of tire little incidents which occurred during the late “En eampment” of the Volunteer Corps upon the Sand Hills, I will obtrude my self upon you by giving one, which oc casioned some little merriment among those who participated in it. A few moments of ten, the attack was made upon the Camp by the Montgome , ry Guards and Irish Volunteers, k Lieu tenant, who had the post of “Officer of the Guard,” had his force, (consisting of about twenty men), drawn up in or der to repel any attack that might be made upon the Eastern line, (that por tion of Camp having been assigned to his protective care.) Every one was on the alert. The attention of the Lieu tenant was called to some one approach- ing the line in a stealthy manner. At | this moment one of the Artillery’s pie- j ces boomed forth the alarm, the signal!, that the camp was assailed. The com-;! * 'V rnaml was given to advance toward the , supposed enemy, and when, within pro per distance, drawn up in a line of battle—the enemy weic challenged—no response being given, the order to charge i was given, and right gallantly did the “faithful few” perform their duty.— The charge was made and the fee was conquered. But oh! to our sur prise and regret, instead of finding the enemy—wo found ourselves in posses sion of two badly frightened negroes. We, however, carried out our instruc tions, and placed our prisoners in con finement until the enemy were in our possession—when we again gave them their liberty. D. The Burial of David Davidson, We cheerfully give place to the fol lowing communication from an Israelite in this city in reference to the burial of this unfortunate man, who shot him -1 self last week. At the same time we would remark, that it was far from our 1 purpose to misrepresent the course pur ' sued toward Mr. Davidson, as the ex pression “refused to bury him,” was designed to refer to the usual burial ’ service, and not to the mere act of bu rying: i Mr. Editor: —Your issue of the 7th ■ inst., contains an editorial headed “The Suicide of Yesterday,” which, without 1 qualification, must create an erroneous impression in the community, preju dicial to the Israelites of Augusta.— ’ You state—“ln accordance with their ■ usage the Israelites of the city refused 1 to bury him.” This is an error. The Israelites have no such usage, they did ’ not refuse to bury, nor did they refuse ' to pay the burial expenses ; they simply declined to read the burial service, the 1 tenets of their religion (as those of ’ many Christian denominations) denying those rites, to one who commits “self slaughter." The Israelites of the city appropria -1 ted a spot, in that portion of the ceme s tary allotted to them, for the burial of ‘ the person alluded to, and in which he ’ was accordingly interred; this fact, of c j itself, is sufficient to controvert the j! assertion made in your editorial. An Israelite. Later from Texas. ’ From the mail news brought to the New Orleans Picayune by the steamship Mexico from Galveston, we extract the ’ | following. The Galveston Civilian, on the 3d in stant, says. The weather during Saturday night and part of yesterday was somewhat ! stormy about Galveston. A heavy vain fell, accompanied by thunder, ligiit s j nlng and wind. The waters, both of the t' Gulf and hay, became quite rough. JfT Dr. Sanford’s lnvigora v tor.—The n ost skeptical people can be con r vinced by trial that all the family medicines are not humbug, and that among the thousand of butter-fly life there arc a few of great merit and , undoubted worth. Os these, Dr. SANFORD’S ' IN VIGOR ATOR or LIVER REMEDY stands first and foremost among the remedies of the day that can be relied on as a medicine that is all it c is recommended by its proprietors. It adver ’ tises itself on every trial, for there are none who 0 use it i-ut toll their friends to do so, and so it goes from mouth to mouth till all the people of l ' the Union have learned the good of this truly valuable medicine. It is recommended with tes *' timonials to prove its virtue for thecure of liver J : complaints of every kind, from Ihe worst Dys pepsia to a common Headache, and is particular !l ly adapted to Jaundice, Deranged Stomach, Bow el Complaints, arid Diseases of Children. One or two doses are said to cure a cold with scarce a failure. It is worth a trial for this alone. It i-j particularly adapted to the use of 1 ladies of sedentary habits. Some ladies of the highest standing in society luve given their cer tificates of its efficacy, and we say to all who are ailing, try one bottle, and you will never be with leld Jt* - m Ur. Sanford’s Liver In : vlgorator is the name of a medicine iuvalu o able to invalids or those troubled with Liver D. Complaint, Jaundice or General Debility, with derangement of the system or loss of appetite. s - It has one peculiarity, not common to most medicines, that is, the Doctor only recommends 7; it for the cure of Liver Complaint, or such dis eases as arise from a disordered Liver, and how r ‘. well it bears the recommendations given is [>- known to all who use it. We never have known a medicine of any kind to perform such a :<;iis!i - h. ing cures as has been by the IXVIGORATOR. It ir stems to strengthen and invigorate the whole • body, increasing the vital energy, and giving a . flow of health to many whose ills were con.-:d ered incurable. Wo can recommend it know ingly as a family medicine, for it has been our rr> best friend in many an hour of sickness.
