The roil being called on ♦he question, "Shall we sustain the crrnplaint of the Presbytery.” the vote stood-ayes lOti, nays 52. Rev. Mr. Shields and his wife are by this vote declared guilty of adultery in the Presbyterian Church pointed view. Legally it does not effect their standing in the leas’; they are still, by the laws of lowa, man and wife, and there is no doubt but that she was regularly di vorced and for what is generally ac knowledged as sufficient grounds. It simply shows that the Presbyterian Church claims that divorces cannot be granted unless adultery lie clearly shown, and that any one marrying a person divorced for any other cause, is himself guilty of adultery in a moral view of the case. Celebration at the Twenljr-Etghtl»— Ceremonies at the D»j, Yesterday was consecrated to a dou ble patriotic purpose, in the celebration of the ceremony of laying the founda tion gloatr of the Monument to Mr. Cal houn. There was a general suspension of business. The day was ushered in by the roar of cannon from Fort Moultrie. At the hour designated, the Civil Au thorities, the Governor and Suite, the Major General and Suite, the different military corps, the Fire Companies with a remnant of the Palmettos*, Masons, Odd Fellows, &c.. preceded by'tlre Ladies of the Calhoui/ Monument Association in carriages, assembled at the place of meeting, and taking up the line of march proceeded up Meeting-street to the Citadel Square, the site of the intended Monument. Arriving there the Masonic brethren, the Grand Master accompani ed by his subordinates, passed through a triumphal arcti and proceeded to the performance of the Rolemn ceremony.—- Afterthedelivery of an impressive pray er by the Rev. I>r.
