It will he seen by a notice under our special notice head, that the Young Men’s Christian Association of this city have appointed committees in the differ ent wards, for the purpose of making collections to relieve the wants of the Young Men’s Christian Association of New Orleans, who, we understand, are short of means, but doing much good with what little they have and by per-j sonal attention. In 1854, when we were visited by Yellow Fever, the How ard Association, of Now Orleans con-j tribuled much to our relief, by sending ns a competent physician, Dr. Campbell and eight competent nurses. Now that we are free from disease, and New Or leans, or the Young Men’s Christian Association has called for means to en able them more effectually to carry! through the good work they have com menced—visiting the sick and relieving the wants of the needy let our citizens give freely—like bread cast on the wa ters, it will bring its return, should circumstances require it. ' AN ORDINANCE, s'or numbering the Buildings and Lot.- , » on the streets of the city of Augusta, ] and to appoint a person to do the , same and collect the pay. , Section 1. Be it ordained by the City j Council of Augusta, and it is hereby or- , dained by authority of the same, That the buildings and lots on the several streets within the corporate limits of the city of Augusta, shall have placed i upon them numbers neatly printed upon 1 signs; the numbering on the streets i parallel with the liiver shall commence o ■v the lower or Eastern ends, and the l numbering of the cross streets shall ! commence at the ends next to the River. ' Sec. 2. And be it further ordained, ! That a suitable person shall be appoin ■ ted bv the City Council and employed to ; perform the numbering agreeable to tire foregoing section, «nd to complete the work under the direction and to the satisfaction of llis Honor the Mayor. Sec 3. And be it further ordained, That the person to he appointed to num ber tire buildings and lots shall be en titled to receive of either the occupant !or owner of each house or lot so num bered the sum of ten cents, which sum of ten cents is hereby imposed as a tax upon each house or vacant lot, upon each and every street, within the cor porate limits of the city, and for tire ; purpose of this ordinance only which j sum is hereby authorized to be collec , ted by the person to be appointed to do i the work. Sec. 4. And he it further ordained, That all ordinances or parts of ordin ! antes militating against this ordinance ; be, and the same are hereby repealed. ' Upon motion of Mr. Dye, Richard P. ! Spellman was appointed by the City j Council to number the Buildings and i Lots on the streets of this city. Mr. Dye offered the following resolu tion—passed : Resolved, That the side walk on the south side es Greene street, between Jackson and Washington streets, also the side walks on the north and south sides of Reynold street, between Comp j bell and Gumming streets, be paved, | and the usual notice be given as provi ded for by the 73d section of thcGener | al Ordinances. By Mr. Clark—passed : Resolved, That the Committee on Cem tery be instructed to inquire into the expediency of enlarging the Cemetery. The following reports of Officers were made : The City Marshal reports 45G nights served by Regular Watch ; 159 by Sub stitutes ; 112 by Captains of City Watch. Also the confinement of 11 whites and 12 blacks since last report. The City Sexton reports '9 interments whites 27 ; blacks 12—seven of whom died out of the city. The Jailor reports 24 prisoners in Jail —whites 15; blacks 9. The Keeper of the Magazine reports 1520 1 4 kegs of Powder in store. The Loiulmi Time*. We were presented yesterday, by friend Tnos. Whyte, with a copy of the London Times and Supplement, of the 18th August, brought by him from the ould country. We were not aware that lie had crossed the ocean, but from his description of iris travels, lie must have had a pleasant time of it. He left New Yolk in the steamer City of Washington, and after a pleasant pas sage, arrived at Liverpool, Proceeding from thence, lie went to London, saw Mr. Dallas, procured a passport to Par is. After seeing the sights in Paris, he proceeded to Cherbourg, where he wit nessed the reception of Queen Vic. and Prime Albert, by Napoleon and the Empress Euuenia— seeing Itoyality in all its gorgeous robes. He then visited Dublin, Cork, Waterford, Belfast and othev places in Ireland, and returned to this city on Saturday last in good health, fine spirits, and much pleased i witli his excursion. The tire learn occurred accidentally, and but a few bales of Cotton were de stroyed. S*F‘ The steamship Augusta, Captain WooDiicLL, from Savannah, arrived at New York on Sunday morning—all well. Two Hi Ink Days. Thursday and Friday last were, indeed, two good days of business. The new Cotton came in very briskly and found anxious purchasers at full prices. Plan ters generally are soiling at the quoted ratefl On Thursday the purchases were from 11 1-4 to 11 5 Bc. The grades of Cotton are generally from strict mid dling to middling fair. On Friday, the streets were well thronged with unloaded Cotton and produce wagons, showing that our great staple, and o her agricultural produc tions, meet with ready sale, atsatisfac tory and remunerating prices Cotton sold on yesterday at from 11 3 8 to 31 f> 8 cts , for extremes Wc learn most of the incoming Cotton is Georgia raised. We must coufcss that our plan ters are entitled to praise for the manifest improvement exhibited in the pressing and neatness of the packages of Cot ton.
