Thu provision cr op, now beyond every
probable contin gency, will be, we learn,
the largest, c.nd best ever made in this
county. oM planter informs us that
he will make fifteen hundred bushels of
corn more than he harvested la6t year,
and that he has worked six hands loss.
The health of the country generally
could not possibly be better. Among
fully a thousand persons congregated
at the Baptist Association Meeting near
the Mineral Spring, oo Sunday, sth inst,
we did not observe a single pule visage
or emaciated figure.— Troupvdle Watch

A Cat Race. - According to the
“ Meuse,” of Leige (to be pronouced
Mews on this occasion,) a match of this
nature took place three nights ago in
that town. Eeighteen cats, belonging
to different persons in the quarter of
the city called the Outre Meuse, were
taken a distance of a league and let
loose at midnight. In exactly half an
hour one of the cats reached home and
carried away the prize ; and all the
others arrived in rapid succession. Three
Toms, whose roving disposition tri
umphed over every sporting sentiment,
did not, however, make their appear
ance until after sunrise. Their names
have, consequently, been scratched out
of all other subsequent racing engage
ments.
Stampede or Free Negroes—Fif
teen free negroes stampeded for "de
blessed Norf,” by yesterday afternoon’s
train, says the Petersburg Express, all
furnished with certificates of departure
by the Mayor. The brilliant induce

friends are acting like charms upon the
free colored population generally.—
Many similar departures have already
i occurred and will continue, not only
l hence, but from various other cities in
Virginia and other Southern States.
Attempt at Suicide.
' Mr. Charles Thornton, a young man
residing in this place, and a recent grad

r while at the Camp Ground, near this
1. place, on the 13th inst., by shooting
& himself in the head with a pistol, the
ball taking effect in his skull just above
the right ear and entering his brain.—
He was standing near the stand while
services were going on, when he com

a town, where he is still alive, but little
hopes are entertained of his recovery.—

the time of the Court by owning up

" For the past week we have had so
much rain that we fear it will prove dis

! Solved I—DR. MORSE’S INVIGORATING COR- (
I DIAL.—The dyspeptic patient, whose stomach
j has lost the power of duly converting food into a }
I life-sustaining element, is relieved by a single
course of this extraordinary tonic. The gastric
j fluid re acquires its solvent power, and the crude
nutriment, which was a load and a burthen to
the sufferer, while his digestive organization was
paralyzed and unstrung, becomos, under the
; wholesome revolution created in the system, the
basis of activity, strongth and health.
The nervous sufferer, while tormented by the ;
. acute, physical agony of Neuralgia, Tic-doloreux ,
j or ordinary headache, afflicted with vague ter- i
rors, wakened by periodical fits, threatened with
. paralysis, borne down and dispirited by that
terrible lassitude which proceeds from a lack of
.nervous energy, or experiencing any other pain
or disability arising from the unnatural condition
? of the wonderful machinery which connects ev
ery member with the source of sensation, mo
-3 tion and thought—derives immediate benefit
from the use of this Cordial, which at once calms,
‘ i invigorates and regulates the shattered nervous
J organization.
, i Females who have tried it are unanimous in
declaring the Elixir to be the greatest boon that
woman has ever receiveu from the hards of
s medical men.
Morse’s Invigorating Elixir has a direct, im
mediate and astonishing effect upon the appetite
While it renews the strength of the digestive
powers it creates a desire for the solid material
which is to be subjected to their action. As an
o appetiser it ha 3 no equal in the Pharmacopia.
If long life and the vigor necessary to its en
joyment are desirable, this medicine is indeed of
precious worth
Its beneficial effects are not confined to either
1 sex or to any age. The feeble %irl, the ailing
* wife, the listless, enervated youth, the overworn
“ man of business, the victim of nervous depres
s sion, the individual suffering from general de
' bility or from the weakness of a single organ
willall find immediateand permanent relief from
the use of this incomparable reuovator. To
those who have a predisposition to paralysis it
will prove a complete and unfailing safe guard
" against that terrible milady. There are many
g perhaps who have so trifled with their constitu
tion that they think themselves beyond the reach
' l of medicine. Let not even those despair. The
Elixir deals with disease as it exists, without re
-0 lerence to the causes, and will not only remove
n the disorder itself, but rebuild the broken con
e' stilution
t- LOSS OF MEMORY, confusion, giddiness, rush
j of blood to the head, melancholy, mental debil

BTCure of Diseased Liver.
; —Hoxesdale Co., Penn., Jan. 10, 1850—Mr.
Seth W. Fowle— Sir : You are at liberty to use
the following statement for the benefit of the af
| flicted :
I was attacked with the Liver Complaint, .
; which apparently brought me to the brink of j ■
•he grave. During my sick ness. I was attended'
| by three physicians in our place, but received j
' 'JO help. I also tried the various remedies re
| commended for such complaints, but they af
j forded me no relief. As a last resort, I was !
persuaded to try Wistar's Balsam of Wild 1
Cherry , and by using four bottles I was restored
to better health than I have enjoyed before for
ten years. This statement may be relied 1 upon
! as strictly true. Betsey Perrin.
The above certificate was given in the pre
sence of D«*. A. Strong, o( Honesdale, who is well
! known in his viciuity as a successful practitioner.

liTt ure tlie Liver.— There is
an article selling throughout the country that
has attained the widest celebrity ever known as
a remedy for Liver Complaints. We have refer
j ence to I)R. SANFORD’S INVIGORATOR, OR
LIVER REMEDY, that ba3 performed cures al
most too great to believe, were it not for the un- '
doubted evidence that accompany the testimo- i
nials. It i 3, in truth, the greatest remedy known j
for Dyspepsia, Jaundice, or a general debility
j that so often baffles the skill of our most eminent!
ii physicians.
Dr. Sanford has been for a longtime one of the
eminent physicians of New York, and it is said,
most of h:s cases were treated with the Invigo- ,
| rator with such invariable success that he has
! been induced to offer it as a family medicine, and
| let the world have the benefit of his discovery.
! If those who are troubled with debility, head
j ache, languor, or slow, lingering fever, will try
j a bottle, we think they might save physicians’
j bills, and days, perhaps years, of suffering.—
