Mr. Bailie is to-day receiving his heavy stock of Carpets, and will open in two or three days. Return of our Mayor. Mayor Conley returned on Saturday last, from a visit to the North, and re sumed the duties of his office. We can not refrain from giving all praise to Fos ter Boldoet, Jr., the efficient "Mayor protem., who officiated during Mr. Con ley’s nbsence. By the faithful, prompt and unceasing discharge of the duties incumbent upon that office, he has won golden opinions for himself from all our citizens. His whole energy and unremitting attention was directed to the improvement of the sanitary condi tion of our city and the prevention of the introduction of Yellow Fever cases from affected cities. He labored to correct the many unfounded rumors that had been circulated of the exis tence of fever in our city, and strove to gain all the facts concerning its daily progress in our sister cities. The Er mine of Magisterial honor did not seem unseemly or unbecoming of iiim. Concert If nil. We stated some days ago, that Mr. Marciiant had *. a ken this Hail for the winter. We have been shown a letter from him. stating that he would open about the nrddle of November, with the best stock company that has ever Appeared on the Augusta Boards. It will embrance Mr. Fuller, Mr. Bernard and other well known favorites here. He states that he has made engage ments with Max Maretzeo’s Italian Op era Troupe, and the English Opera, who will each appear for a season, and has secured Mrs. Julia Dean Hayne, Miss Avonia Jones, Maggie Mitchell, Edwin Booth, Burton, Murdock, Collins, WALcorr.and others as stars. He hopes also to conclude an engagement with Miss Logan. Our theatre-goers can expect enter tainments of an interesting and eleva ted character, and we trust that Mr. Marciiant will be liberally patronized for his efforts to elevate the drama here. —— Returned. The Rev. J. E. Ryerson, Pastor of the Baptist Church of this city, and Rev. J. R. Wilson, pastor of the Pres byterian Church, have returned to the city. The numerous friends of both Rev. gentlemen will be gratified to learn that their health is much improved. New Advertisements. Thos Wiiyte. —lt will beseen that this gentleman has removed his store from Mclntosh street, to Broad street, below the City Hotel, where lie offers for sale, numerous articles in his line of business. He is the Agent of the Great Western Insurance and Trust Company of Phila delphia, whose capital is $500,000. We publish a list of the Directors and the statement of its condition on the Ist Jan. 1858, and would call the attention of merchants to it. Also of the Quaker City Insurance Company. Baker & Wright. —This is anothir of our old Grocery Houses. They are the Agents for the Chattanooga Mills in this city, and offer for sale a iot of Superfine Flour of their manufacture in bids.— They keep on band a heavy stock of Groceries, Bacon, Lard, &c. Augustus Robert —The Agent of the Hartford Fire & Insurance Company, and the North American Fire Insurance Company of Hartford, it will be seen, has removed his office to the corner of Jackson and Ellis streets. John Nelson. This gentleman is also one of our old line merchants, and keeps on hand a good stock of gro ceries, and the best quality of Brandies, Wines, &c. We saw some good old Port in his store the other day, the bot tles being in the same condition as when taken out of the flood of 1840. As a Family Grocery, we can recom mend his establishment, as he always keeps the best and sells at moderate profits. Desirable Residence —A very desira ble residence, near the city, on the Mil ledgeville Road, Is offered for sale. A good opportunity for any one wishing such a place.
