Judge Holt rendered his decision in this case this morning—sustaining the motion to make award of Arbitrators the Judgment of the Court. ‘ Almost u Fire. The residence of the Editor of this paper narrowly escaped destruction by fire last night. The fire caught in the bed-curtains about 7 o’clock, and bed, cloths, and carpet were nearly consum ed, when it was arrested by the kind and efficient aid of oik immediate neighbors to whom we tender our grate ful acknowledgements Two children in a trundle bed made a fortunate and very narrow escape before the flames extended to them. A Sew Objtet of Gann*. * ; 'T.s ever common, That men are merriest when they are from home.” On Sunday last, a gentleman who went down the riveron a hunting ex cursion, who was m a very facetious mood of mind, and who was not blessed with that discrimination which every hunter should possess, fancying that he beheld a “mud lark ” on the bank of the liver, took sight and fired, killing! the game. The “mudlark” not wish-! ing to die on shore, jumped into the boat of the gentleman, who afterwards brought the trophy of his prowess to the city. He was brought before a Jovial Magistrate, after his arrival, upon the good natured charge of having mista ken a “hog” for a “mudlark,” and ini the way of a joke, was bound over toj the Superior Court in a bond of 500 dollars. The owner of the hog, alias iuud lark, seriously thought that he was on the eve of losing it, but as it was on ly a mistake, we are glad that be lias “ saved his pork” conscious that it will be properly cooked. — Acknowledgements. One of our Atlanta cotemporaries lias been making frequent mention of “spii itual manifestations” from the mer-j chants of that city. That is all right, for we have no doubt the merchants of Atlanta appreciate the laites of the edi tors, and govern themselves according ly. It becomes also, our pleasant duty to record the receipt of a number of very pleasant remembrancers from our friends, varying in character and value, and all, most acceptable. From Mr. Goodrich we have received a half-bariel of very superior buck wheat flour, which has been “the auto crat of (our) breakfast table” for a week past. From Mr. llanicinson, Hon. Secreta ry of the Cosmopolitan Art Association we acknowledge the receipt of a beau tiful engraving of the “Village Black-1 smith,” which we believe to be the best! of the annual pictures distributed by that society. From one of our cleverest merchants, whose modesty prompts him to remain incog to our readers, we have a very •tasteful rigolette for our better half. By another mo Jest horticultural friend we were presented with a sample of strawberries, but as he se>ms to think that one strawberry, like one swallow, cannot make a summer, he shall be nameless also. But if his winter crap prospers we expect to hear from him again. From a source second in cherished memories only to childhood’s home, we have two barrels, well filled with the products of the farm and garden.— Though they came too late to add to the staples of a Thanksgiving dinner, they will have a place among the luxu ries of the Chrismas holiday’s. From one of our appreciative hard ware merchants, we acknowledge the receipt of a very efficient and much needed Associate Editor, in the shape of a pair of scissors. From John Nelson, whose worth, if weighed in the balance would not he found waqting, we have received a pair of Fairbank’s Letter Balances, a most desirable adjunct to every counting house desk. The same appreciating in dividual, to fortify us against tljg effect of a change of weather, and to correct the possible influence of over-indulgence in the good things which our friends are showering upon us—sent up a hot - tie of “Scotch Lochnagar,” pure old Whisky.
