Notice.

Lubricating Grease, for all kinds of
heavy machinery, water wheels, wag
gons, carts, omnibuses, &c., in another

Concert flail—Burton.
This great commedian makes his first
and only appearance to night in his
great charters of Aminadab Sleek and
Toodles. It is unnecessary to do more
than make this simple announcement,
to fill Concert Hall.
We are assured by Mr. Makchaxt
that this will positively he his only ap
pearance, as he is obliged to leave for
New Orleans at one o’clock to-morrow
morning.
“ lectures to the Young.”
This course of Lectures by Itcv. J. E.
Everson, is proving to be very instruc
tive and interesting, Notwithstanding
the inclement weather of last Sunday
evening, he had a large and attentive
congregation, to listen to his third Lec
ture, “the Scientific objections to Chris
tianity considered.” He reviewed, iu
their order, the prominent objections
urged by celebrated Astronomists, Geo
legists and Historians. In astronomy
he reviewed and refuted tlie following
objections: The Mosaic account of the
creation of tlie Sun, Moon and Stars is
opposed to the present (Newtonian) sys
tem ; tlie planetary system is described
in that account as it appeared to be, and
not as it is; because it says thht light
was created before the Sun ; the sun and
moon is said to have stood still at Josh
ua's command ; the improbability of the
sun and stars being created for the ben
efit of our world solely ; and the mag
nitude of the Works of God inconsis
tent with the interest He is said to take
in our behalf.
In Geology, the objections based upon
the theory that there aio indications
that the world is of greater ago than
tlie Mosaic account; tlie various stratas
of shells, &c.; fossil remains of ani
mals now extinct; the evidences of a
change in the earth's surface ; and the
utter impossibility of the deluge, were
likewise met. 'Jhe objections based
upon the Egyptian Eclipses, tlie Chinese
Eclipses, Indian chronology and tlie
Egyptian Zodiac, once so pertinaciously
urged by historians, ho showed to have
been proved fallacious and untenable
by the researches of infidel men of sci
ence. In the discussion of this theme,
he gave evidence of an intimate ac
quaintance with the subject, as well as
with the theories and opinions of men
of science. We hopo that all our
young men especially—will avail them
selves of the opportunity of listening
to this course of lectures, and attend
them. We trust that this lecture may
be repeated.
Dlouut Vernon.
Mr. Eve, tlie indefatigable Vice Re
gent of the Mount Vernon Association ac
knowledges in the morning papers, the
receipt of SSO from the Clinch Hides of
this city. A noble example, which we
hope every military corps in the State
will emulate.
The memhers of the Ilook & Ladder
company sent up S tl a few days ago.
gfp Has anything been heard of El
der Hyde, tlie reformed Mormon.—
When here last winter he expressed a
strong intention to return to Augusta
and practice law.
[COMMUNICATED.]
Mr. Editor Permit me through
your paper to call public attention to
the practice of the Georgia Railroad, in
the receiving of goods at their freight
Depot. The Mercantile community of
this place do not receive their letters
from tlie Post Office until ten o’clock,
A. M. Consequently the time they
have for sending out the articles order
ed is limited, and tlie Georgia Railroad
have established a rule that “ no goods
will be received at the Depot after five
P. M.” and if an unlucky drayman hap
pens to drive to the door after that
hour—evert five minutes after, he is
peremptorily ordered back with his load.
I have been informed that the Georgia
Road is about the only Road South
where they will not receive goods at
any hour during the day. There are
other points that I will at a future time
call the attention of the directors to.

“ We never met. yet my wild, weary heart
Turns to thee in devotion : its wild dreams
Are all of thee. Thy breathing strains impart
Magic, and hope, and love, until it seems,
That deep within my soul a new life starts.
Whose thought hire angel’s with beauly teems,
y seize my quivering harp to make a strain,
And wait tho music back to thee again.”
To
Ar.fl have we never met ? Oh, cruel fate !
If my faint Btrains have reached thy car,
And brought new life into thy soql,
Why wilt thou not that life improve, <
And all its wildest dreams attain ? <
Oh, would I could, some strain awake,
■ft’hose magic voice could reach thy soul
And tell it all my heart would say ;
Then thou would’st wish that we had met.

HY JKXNY WOODBINE.
One by one earth’s children perish,
One by one they disappear ;
Every day some bre ken circle
Wcepoth o’er a vacant chair.
Yes—the good, the brave, tho faithful
Perish daily at their post ;
And upon the air is sounding
Wailing for the loved and lost.
Aye, too oft with bitter sorrow
We some pale dead face can see
Resting on its snowy pillow—
Now the grave has yawned for thee.
Yes—the last sad rites are over,
And the earth has claimed Us own ;
While the freed and heaven born spirit
Ventures to the Great Unknown.
Ah ! thy heart was kind and gentle,
Friend to all the human race ;
In each day of thine existence,
We some deed of kindness traie.
But thy work on earth i 3 ended—
Now thy hands are cold an l chill;
And with tender though*s of pity
Nevermore thy pulse shall thrill.
They, with whom thou last hast labored.
They shall miss thee everywhere,
At thine oi l accustomed window
They shall see thy vacant chair.
They shall miss thy morning greeting,
And with grief their inarts will bow ;
For thy pen is lying idle,
And thy chair is empty now.
And thy brother Masons miss thee,
Thou the faithful and tho good,
In the halls where thou hast mingled
With the gentle brotherhc ;d.
When once more they shall assemble,
Each ia bis accustomed place,
They will look, but look all vainly,
lor thy kind familiar face.
But a deeper grief lias fallen
On the lonely widowed heart,
Bound to thee by ties the strongest,
Ties that naught but .; tth could part
Well I know her heart Wits breaking,
And her cup of woe was Ailed,
When the last fond kiss was given
To the lips that death had chilled.
On the fatherless is resting
Grief that youth but ill can bear ;
And their youthful hearts are beating
’Neath a dark and chill despair.
May a tender,pitying Father
Soothe their anguish deep and wild ,
Angels kind watch o’er the widow
And the lonely orphan child.
