LOCAL MATTERS. snooting. A young man named < c tkfhex D. Prich-akd, ■whose parents resi le in Quincy, Fla., and who was on his way home from Goldsboro’, N. C , was shot near the corner of Jackson anil EHis streets, by Hiiaurd J. Wilson, on Saturday night. It appears that Wilson had been in a difficulty with a Mr. Robkkt Lami’kin, of Colum bia county, who had Bred at him twice, Wilson being unarmed. Wilson then procured a pistol and shot Mr. Prichard. There are various versions to this sad affair— some report that Wilson mistook Prichard for Lampkin. Prichard is lying very low, the shot having penetrated his lung, causing him to spit blood freely, and rendering respiration difficult. After considerable resistance, he was arrested by officer W. W. King, who displayed great cool ness and bravery. Fatal Stabbing A (Tiny. On Saturday morning an assault was made upon Wm. Osbuhn, a worthy man employed ot the Waynesboro depot, by Thos. Jonhs, a moulder at the Augusta Machine Works. It appears that Osborn went in to Kami's driuking shop for a cigar, when he was wantonly attacked by Jones, and stabbed so as to cause his death on Saturday night. Jones was arreEted, after some resistance, by officer Christian, and is in Jail. He was bo drunk at the time, we learn, that he says he does not know what he is in custody for. He is an old offender, and w?s under a bond of SIOOO to keep the peace. . Accidentally Shot. A son of Matt. Simmons, Esq. had his right hand horribly mutillated by the explosion of a pistol, on Friday night. He was driving up a charge, which was too large, when the pistol exploded, in juring him so as to render amputation of the arm necessary. * -— —— Colored Burglary We learn that Cook's Clothing store was entered by two negroes, one night last week, and “ systematically robbed" of clothing, amounting in value to sev eral hundred dollars. S2OO worth was recovered. One of tire boys belonged to Dr. Dogas, and one to Mr. Rutherford. The Marsh Juveniles. Our readers will hear in mind that this com pany of young comedians will appear to night at Concert Hall. We have copied commendatory allusions to them by the Atlanta press ; and while wc have not heard them perform, a day , > ride with them on the Georgia Railroad, induces us"to sty mat we have never before Eeeu a col lection of so many clridren so interesting and so beautiful. A car was appropriated to the Com pany, and they all seemed pictures of health and vivacity—some amusing themselves with dolls, some with papers, and some watching the Christmas sports of the darkeys, which thronged the depots at every station. A sight of these lit tle fairies is alone worth the price of admission, nnd we are assured by' those who have seen them, that their delineations are truthful, and that the whole performance is of the most chaste and interesting character. The Differnt African Racks.— At n late meeting of the Boston Society of Natural History, Dr. Bodiehon, n resi dent of Aigeritt, in Africa, presented a paper of great interest on tho races of that country, founded on his own obser vation. He stated that there were two white races ; one inhabiting the moun tains, the Numidians or Berbers, and tlie Arabs. The former were small in stature, warlike, independent, demo cratic, and polygamous. They dwell in villages, and plant vineyards. They are fine soldiers, able to compete with Europeans. The are not governed by laws, but refer their difficulties to the first man that chances to pass by. Dr. B. considers them an indigenous race. The Arabs are a tall race, of dark com plexion, equestrian, nomadic, warlike, religious, poetical and polygamous.— They divide their time, about equally, between fighting and praying. He also referred to a mixed race of Turks, and the women of the different tribes of the country, which, not hav ing the stamina of the parent races, are fast disappearing before the French.— He found in the interior of Africa a Germanic race, with blue eyes and light hair, which are probably the descend ants of the ancient Carthagenians. They are polygamous, and unlike all other nations, the females are sovereign, both in family and state. They also possess the characteristic superiority of white races—the enslaving of the neighbor ing blacks. New Orleans, Dec. 23. — At the South ern Pacific Railroad Convention, last evening, several prominent stockhold ers gave the details of their connection with the road, showing that no fraudu lent stock had been issued. General Richardson, the chairman of the busi ness committee, showed that there was enough money already provided to pay immediate liabilities. The New Orleans stockholders promised their earnest co operation , and on Thursday were active ly engaged in paying the amount re quired, to free the road of all claims. The Convention adjburned at night. Washington, Dec. 24. It is said that the Spanish Minister has officially in formed Mr. Cass that the difficulties be tween the Spanish government and the Tampico authorities have been settled, hut letters from commercial houses at Tampico just received here contain the reverse of this statement, and further that as soon as the weather will permit the Spanish fleet will concentrate on the whole coast from Saguna to Tampi co, thus confirming the previous advices. Some More Mount Vernon. Mrs. Sigourney and Mrs. Senator Dixon pro pose to get up Beries of tableaux at Hart ford, Conn., representing scenes in the life of Washington, beginning with his childhood, the story of the hatchet and the cherry tree, in which the children could take part, (it will be for a Christ mas enteitainment,) witli other scenes from his youth. Proceeding on to more romantic and sentimental affairs, they will represent his wooing of the fair widow Curtis, while his steed stood waiting at the gate. His wedding and his court, and Lady Washington’s court, would make some stately sceneß. The receipts will he given to the Mount Ver non Association. Further by the Quaker City.
