Notwithstanding the unfavorable weather there was a good audience at Concert Hall last night, to witness the performances of this truly wonderful troupe of children. Little George, as Schnapps, was the centre of attraction, though Miss Louise played the Queen of the Naiads to perfection, and Hiss Cabby as Rupert made a capital lover, and SI aby was equally correct in her delineations, and in "Nan the Good for Nothing,” displayed a perfect appreciation of the character. In short the whole troupe evince the dramatic power of “old sta gers,” notwithstanding it is only three years and a half since they were organ ized, and they have seldom witnessed any dramatic performance save their own. No apologies are needed for their inexperience—since there is a natural ness and native grace in all their delin eations which the conventionalities of dramatic art would not improve. The scenery and tableaux are gorgeous and attractive, and a very pleasing feature of the performance last night was the military evolutions of the Naiads. To-night they appear in the romantic drama of the Brigand, or the Rollers of Italy. After which, a grand Chinese dance, by sixteen of the troupe. The performances will conclude with the popular farce of Toodlts. - A Hoy Shot. Alluding to the casualties of theholi days on yesterday, we omitted to notice the shooting of a lad named Jehu Cason by Charles Sharpe, on Saturday. The Constitutionalist says : Sharpe was brandishing a pistol about, threatening to shoot somebody, when a boy, Jehu Cascn by name, who was standing near, remarked, “don’t shoot me!" at the same time starting to run. Sharpe fired, and three buck shot were lodged in the boy’s body ; two of them have been extracted, but a third, it is thought, remains in one of his lungs. Cason was hut twelve years of age. He is not expected to survive. Sharpe has not been arrested. Burglary. The rooms of Dr. Wm. K. Kitchen and Mr. Ripley, of New York, were entered last night, at one of our hotels and a watch and about SIOO in money taken from each Several rooms were entered, and robbed of smaller amounts. It is believed that a number of profes sional thieves and pickpockets are still in the city, and our citizens should he on their guard. [communicated.] Caution to Travelers—Beware of the Money Changers. IVe are credibly informed that some person or persons are in the habit of im posing upon unsuspecting travelers, by posting themselves in the Georgia de pot, in this city, and inducing them to submit to extortionate discount upon hills of hanks whose circulation bears only a slight discount. The ticket agents are the only safe persons to he trusted by travelers in money matters. .Strangers are almost certain to be swin dled by dealing with those who occupy no official position on the road. Faib Play. [communicated. ] Twiggs’ Academy. Mb. Editob The exercises of this Academy, on Thursday night last, were highly interesting. A large num ber of visitors of both sexes were pres ent. In declamation, the scholars gave evidence of strong natural powers, and of the skill and ability of Mr. W. J. Burnside, their teacher, in bringing those powers into action. Several little dialogues were recited with great spirit. A scene from “The Loan of a Lover,” and one from “Bamboozle,” was per formed, eliciting rounds of applause from the audience. One or two young gentlemen enlivened thoscene with the witching strains of music. John L. Harris, Esq , of Glynn county, was in troduced, and enchained the audience for a few moments with one of those thunderbursts of eloquence, so peculiar to himself. His theme was Education, and his soul seemed centered in the sub ject. Long will this speech he remem bered by those who heard it. Every one went away pleased and delighted with the exercises of the evening. Richmond county. Spectator. Exposube of Spirtualism —Dr. Hatch, the spiritualist and husband of Mrs. CoraV. Hatch, the medium, is out in a letter declaring spiritualism, in its mo ral, social and religious hearings, to he demoralising. He promises to “expose the damning practices of its believers, its delusive theories and its prostitution and libertinism.” A few days ago, George P. Pane, known as a “physical medium,” gave an exhibition of “table moving” in New York, during which one of his audience discovered that a small wire running through the floor was in contact with the leg of the table. On this discovery Pane acknowledged that the whole thing was a fraud but by means of it he had converted hun dreds to spiritualism. Manufactures in New England.— Business appears to have attained a de greeof activity in this city full of pro mise to traders. The improvement in manufacturing operations has produced a change in the department depending upon the condition of trade in the inte rior towns of New England. There is no great and feverish demand for goods, hnt the call is constant, the customers are disposed to paycash if possible, and the safety of the transactions compen sates for the diminution in amount from times of excitement and over ac tivity.—Boston Transcript. The African Boy. ► | here arc one or two facts connected with the abduction of this individual that should bo known to the public He was taken by the U. S. Marshal Sat 3 in-day morning, from the Barracks to the sale rooms of Mr. Geo. W. Wylly, where there wero no means for securing 11 m ease an Attempt at rescue, his only guard at night being a negro man on the premises. Saturday afternoon Mr. \Yylly informed the Deputy Marshal that he had reason to believe that an at tempt. would be made to abduct the boy e that the place offered no security, and t that be (\Y.) would be responsible for , him no longer. In the face of this * earning, the boy was allowed to re main on the premises, no effort was s made to render him secure, and the , nex * rooming he was “found missing.” - f We make this statement by authority. It this be a specimen of Federal effi ciency, we would advise the Govern -1 ment to ml pros all proceedings in the . case at once, and save itself a fruitless ’ expense— Sav. Republican. u Mr. David T. Ash, manager of the! e Washington St. Theatre, Memphis, and . an old citizen of that place, was killed | B last week by the accidental discharge of; a pistol. 1 Two cannons are in course of trial at r Etrst Liberty, near Pittsburg, by United! states officers. Up to the 13th each gun 1 had been fired 2,200 times, and both were still sound—ls pounds of powder - in each charge. * Our American custom of thanksgiv day was observed at Paris by Araeri s cans, and a grateful congregation lis-j y tened to a grateful discourse from the J lips of Bishop Mcllvane, of Ohio. Prolific Cotton Seed PLANTERS are informed that I Slave succeeded iu producing a Prolific Cotton: that yields more to the stalk than any I have ever seen. Being fond oi experim nt, I have . tried, for the last twenty-five years, every va riety of Cotton that promised a large yield, and have found nothing that equals my present g stock of Seed.
