A large and delighted audience greet
ed the second appearance of the Marsh
Troupe last night. The “Brigand"
went off with fine effect, and little
George heat Burton and the world in
Tocdles,
To-night the great dramatic spectaclo
of the “Sea of Ice,” will he presented.
The Atlanta American, alluding to the
performance of this piece in that city
says:
On Saturday night the Troupe per
formed with admirable effect the new
Drama of “The Sea of Ice," before a
full and delighted audience. The entire
paraphenalia belonging to this play
scenery, decorations and wardrobe—are
gotton up on the most extensive scale
and in the most tasteful and magnifi
cent style.
The Atlanta Intelligencer, speaking of
the same piece, sa.rs :
“ Decidedly the crowning act of their
performances in our city was the “Sea
of Ice,” which closed their engagement
with us on Saturday evening last.
Killed by the Car..
A negro boy named Jake, a carpenter
belonging to John Piiinizv, Sr., was run
overby the cars about three miles from
the city, as the train was coming in last
night, and killed almost instantly.
Harper’s Magazine.
We have been favored with a copy of
Harper for January, by Mr. Norkeli..
Its leading papers are illustrated sketch
es of “Tropical Journeyings,” of the
“People of Red River,” and of “Que
bee.” “The Virginians” is continued,
and the “Editor’s Table” is full and
varied as usual. This magazine is
bound to maintain the high rank it has
acquired among the periodical litera
ture of the day.

Serenaders should not always leave
in a hurry after they have finished play

Mr. Editor:—A card signed “Fair
—-“Rijn,” appeared in your paper on yes
terday, reflecting very unjustly upon “a
person Or persons,” who buys uncurrent
money at the Georgia Railroad depot.
Aslamthe only individual, “not offi
dally connected with the road,” who
make it my business to accommodate
‘ the public in that way, I deem it pro
per to state, that I charge in all cases t
ates of the brokers in the city, and
I cheerfully refer to any man, who has
trausactions with me, and is acquaint
ed with tho customary rates of ex
change, and travelers regard it a con
venience to got current funds without
hunting for a broker’s office. Green
travelers may think it proper for me to
do this without charge, but the intelli
gent public will not expect it, and 1
shall give them no cause to fear being
swindled. G. A. Blount.
Collapse of Imperial Crinolin*. —
The following intelligence is from a pri
vate letter, dated at Paris, November
25th :
“The Empress created a great sensa
tion at Compiegne last week by appear
ing in a dress without crinoline, very
small at the top of the skirts, with the
immense old-fashioned hoop at the bot
tom. Next year the ladies will ho
wearing the dress of the old pictures of
the days of Louis XIV.”

Bermuda. —An officer of the Sabine,
in a letter dated November 3d, says :
lam glad to have an opportunity of
seeing Bermuda, for it is rarely or never
visited by our national ships, and not one
has ever, I believe, been driven here for
relief. Great hospitality has been exten
ded to us by the officials of the island,
and every facility afforded for repairing
the crippled frigate. In the event of
war with us, Bermuda would be of in
estimable value to England, and a ter
rible thorn in the side of the United
States. Against the natural defence of
this group of islands—a coral reef—mil
itary sciences would be of no avail, and
the narrow channel way is not only de
fended by shore batteries, but also by
one of those powerful iron shot-proof
steam batteries- built for the Baltic
—carrying 16 8 inch solid shot-guns.

to which is to he added the amounts ship

and we have an aggregate of 32,000,000
bushels or about 1,300,000 tons.

Prolific Cotton Seed
PLANTERS are informed that I have
succeeded in producing a Prolific Cotton
that yields more to the stalk than any I have
> ever seen. Being fond o experim nt, I have
tried, for the last twenty-five years, every va
5 riety of Cotton that promised a large yield,
and have found nothing that equals my present
stock of Seed. It is a Hybrid ol the Boyd’s and
other Proli lies with the Petit Gulf. I luve stalks
! uow in iuy omce,
Four feet high, with 165 bolls on it.
i Three feet high, with.... 125 “ “
Two feet high, with... .75 k ‘ “
As many as two hundred and fifty bolls and
forms have been counted cm a few large staiks.
Every persou who has seen my crop pronounce
- it the heaviest boiled cotton they ever saw. One
planter pulled off a limb, twelve inches long,
t having nine bolls on it. As this Cotton does not
limb as long as Petit Gulf, it can be planted
1 closer in the row and drill, thus securing a
} greater number of stalks to the acre.
1 will fill orders for Seed at One Dollar and
