neighbours in Charleston, are oppos'd to the | re
ject of a bridge communication botween S.-uth Ca
rolina and this city. We are, however, somewhat

“ Chamber of Commerce" of tliat city. Why the
members uf tliut intelligent Corporation should bo

thorn who oppose their reasonable wishes. A State
should be no respecter of persons—the greater-

by this equitable rule.
We certainly cannot bring ourselves to believd
that the enlightened merchants of Charleston are ta
be frightened by the bugbear of a little bridge arras#
the Suvunnnh River, which "A Merchant" would
fain give great importance to. Surely, the increased
travel that such a mode of passage would afford
between the two sister cities, would tenfold repay
any imaginary injury that the elder city could bu
thought to sustain.
We certainly believe that the contemplated bridge,
will be of us much benefit lo South Carolina as to
Savannah j—it will facilitate the intercourse be
tween the two States. See what utility has been
d -rived by Carolina from tfw Augusta and Ham*
