At Cartersville, Georgia, on Christmas
day, after a brief illness, Eiolse Maud
btovall, only .0 years of age, closed her
eyes in the sleep of death, to open them In
the eternal life of Heaven.—COnatiUUion
aliat, December 31st.
If I had known. O gentle heart,
When, hand to hand, we said farewell,
How for all time our patb-t would part,
What shadow o’er our friendship fell,
I should have clasped your hand so close
In the warm pressure of my own.
That memory still would keop Its grasp.
If 1 had known.
If I had known when, far and wide,
We loitered through the Summer land,
What presence wandered by our side.
And o’er you stretched Its awful hand,
I should have hushed my careless speech,
I o listen, close, to every tone
That from your Ups fell low and sweet.
If I had known.
If I had known when your kind eyes
Met mine in pa*ting, true and sad—
Eyes gravely tender, gently wise,
And earnest, rather, more than glad—
How soon the lids would lie above.
As cold and white as sculptured stone,
I should have treasured every glance.
If I had known.
If I had known how, from the strife
Of fears, hopes, passions, here below,
Uuto a purer, higher life
lou’d soon be called, dear one, to go,
I should have lingered by thy side,
And hushed each careless, laughing tone,
To bid you a last, long God-speed,
If I had kuown.
If I had known to what strange p'aei,
What mystic, distant, silent shore.
Would soon be turned that hght-ioine face,
After my footsteps left your door,
I should have f rged a golden link
To bind the heart so constant *rown,
And keep it constant ever there,
If I had known.
If I had known that, until death
Shall with his finger touch my brow,
And still the quiekening of the breath
That stirs with life’s full meaning now,
So long ray feet must tread the way
Of our accustomed paths alone,
I should have prized your presence more,
Ii I had known.
If I had known how soon for you
Drew near he ending of the tight,
And on your vision, fair and new.
Eternal p eace dawned into sight.
1 should have begged, as life’s last gift.
That you before God’s great white throne
Would prav for one left here on e.uth,
If I had known.

Something to be Proud Of!
Concord Mills Cassimeres
THE Undersigned, having thoroughly
tested the Concord Mills Cassimeres
ami buitings, and made them up into salts
for quite a number of our citizens, will
continue to keep these Caesimeres on hand
havtng just received another large case.
The Concord Mills are located at brnvtna,
Cobb county, Ga., and the quality or the
goods excel! many of the Scotch fabrics -
equals the English suitings and other im
ported Cassimeres, and is superior to many
or our domestic manufactures. For a
number of years I did business on Broad
wa >'. .• and had the handling of im
ported goods, and 1 feel assured in nss—rt
. R I*?* va,u of the Concord in quality,
durability and style, in contrast with any
class of goods, at one-third !e.s i u pi ice.
An examination and trial will convince
anyone.
