Agreeably to their Constitution,the Legislature of the State of Soulh-Carolina met on Monday last the 22d inst:—ln Senate, the Hon. Henry Df.as, was duly elected President, qualified and took his seal; Job Johnston, Esq. was unani mously re-elected Clerk; Esek 11. .Maw, read lug Clerk; Gl’suman Chapman, door-keeper ; and John Withers, Messenger. On motion of Mr. Seubrook, a counnillee was appointed to Wait on the Governor, informing him that the Senate had bean duly organized, and were rea dy to receive any communications from him. The House of Representatives also duly or ganized themselves for business. Henry L. Pinckney, was elected Speaker; Robert An derson, Clerk: Robert Waring, Messenger, and James Fulton, Door-Kecpor. Hi - Excellency Gov. Miller, transmitted to both Houses the usual Message, for their con sideration. The Legislature of North-Curolina nipt at Ra hdgh, on the 15th inst 1). F. Caldwell, Esq. of Rowan, was elected Speaker of the Senate, and Charles Fisher, Esq. of Salisbury, Speak er of die House, An able Message from Gov. Owen, was duly transmitted to both Houses. The now Theatre at Columbia, S. C. under the management of Mr. DeCamp, opened on I the 23d hist, with the comedy of “ Laugh whi n you can.” The editor of the Times &, Gazette speaks highly of the Company from their (list specimen. May I presume to re tain I our City Council, that this would he a most i suitable time for ns also, to evince our respect ,! and regard for that distinguished Patriot, —“who has filled the measure of his Country’s glory."
