tfros THE ® AKa Examination of the Uvlffin Collegiate Seminary. Mr Editor : I *' ,s h to B *F ft word or two in your col | ‘ ’^ ou t the above named Institution. This is one of Is k 2 m/Mr flourishing and ably conducted Institutions of the kind in the South. It has been for the last four and a half ! years under the supervision of Mr. H*;b E. Moheow, who § j ia , won for himseif, both here and elsewhere in this State. E a jawing and well deserved reputation as a successful goy- I error and faithful instructor of young ladies. The Semi ’ nary closed its fourth scholastic year with a thorough ex amination, which was continued througii nearly the whole of the first week in July. The writer was present during the whole of the exercises. A large crowd of delighted spectators were in constant attendance. One hundred and twenty-five pwpils were examined on the numerous studies to which they had attended. Ti c examination was not confined to any set portiotf of the works studied ; but ex tended, in a promiscuous way, from beginning to end of the various branches to which they had given attention. The result was in the highest degree satisfactory to the au dience, end creditable to the school. Ail gave evidence of thorough teaching and devoted study, The > >ung ladies evinced that they tiad not only been imined to study and - instructed in the science?, but that they had been exercised in vocal music, to an extent we have never seen equalled. Their performances in this respect wore above aii praise The graduating class, six in number, did honor to them reives, their teachers their families, and their country. We could say much more about these performances, and then the half would not be told, but we are afraid of being tedious; and will only add a word about the place where this Seminary is located. Griffin is unsurprised in Georgia for good society, pure morality and good health. Only one death has occurred among the pupi sos this school s-ince it? establishment, four years and a half ago ; and al though Griffin contains a population oi 3070 souls, only one grown white person has died here in nearlv twelve months, and not much above a dcz:a have died, including all classes. e mention those things in order that parents and guar nians may know where to send their daughters and wards, so as to secure to them every facility for improvement and every security for health. ‘ A SPEC i ATO.i.
