Down Easter. — We heard a friend relate tho
acccompatiying incident the other day with not
a little zest, and to the amusement of a good
many bystanders—
‘Jumping into an old-fashioned stage coach
last month, in company with nine others, to jos
tle over 10 miles o! urilinshcd road between
Pittsburg and Philadelphia, I was very much
amused with the following characteristic dia
logue between a regular question asking‘Down
Easter’ and a high-heeled Southerner. We
were scarcely seated, before our Yankee be
gi"V
“Traveling East, 1 expect?”
“Y es, sir.”
“Goiri’ to Philadelphia, I reckon?”
“No, sir.”
“Oh, ah, to New York, may be?”
“Y es, sir.’
“Calc’latin to buy goods, I presume?’’
“No, sir.’
“Never ben there before, I wouldn’t wonder?”
“No, sir ; never.”
“New York is a wonderful place.’
“Such is my impression, sir.”
“Got letters, 1 expect ?’’
“Yes, sir ; 1 am provided with letters of intro
duction.”
“Wouldn’t mind showin’ you round inyselfa
spell, if you wanted.’’
“I thank, you sir ; but I shall not require your
assistance.’’
This last remark of the polite but reserved
stranger was a poser; and the “inquisitor” fell
back a moment to take breath, and change bis
tactics. The half suppressed smile upon the
face of (lie other passengers soon aroused the
Y ankee to still further exertions ; and summon
ing up more resolution, he began again.
“Stranger, perhaps you are not aware how al
mighty hard it is for a Yankee to control his
curiosity. Y ou’ll please excuse me, but I really
would like to know your name, and residence,
and the business yo j follow. 1 expect you ain’t
ashamed of either of ’em; so now wonk you just;
obleege me?”
This last appeal brought out our Southern 1
friend, who rising up to the extremes! height al
lowed by the coach, and throwing back his j
shoulders replied.
“My name is General Andrew Washington.
I reside in the State of Mississippi. lam a
gentleman of leisure, and 1 am glad to be able
to say, of extensive means. 1 have head much
of New York, and I am now on my way to see
it; and if 1 like it as well as lam led to expect
1 intend to—bijy it
Then was heard a shout of stentorian laugh- I
ter throughout the stage coach, and this was the
last nf that conversation.

DR. GALE'S ANODYNE OF OPIUM.
It is a fact well known that many people are accustomed to
buy aud use without tho ad vice of a physician, many of the pre

The effect of these medicines Is generally known, and while
they are admitted to possess Anodyne and sedative properties
not to be dispensed with they are still liable to serious objections
in many cacs and doubtless are often mischievous in their ten
dency.
The new chemical preparation, now’ submitted to the public, is
believed to possess all their virtues, and even more, without be

hastily founded, nor based on limited experience—after a trial
of some years in which this remedy has been placed in the hands

believed to stand unrivalled, not only for it* rare v. edicinal vir

S motherV arms, by the soothing influence of th.s valuable
| preparation.
This is to certify that the Mexican Mr. tang Liniment
; has been used quite extensively in the stables of Adams &
Co.'s Croat Southern, Eastern and Western Express, for
curing Calls, Chafes, Scratches, Sprains and ]-rt*L,c,and
it has proved very effectual. Many < : i their men have
also used it on themselves and their familic-. and they all
speak of its healing and remedial qualities in the highest
terms. One of our hostlers got kicked, and badly cut and
i bruised on his knee—as usual, the Musn.ug Liniment was
| resorted to, and the soreness and lameness was soon re
i moved, and it was perfectly well in tluee or four days.—
We have no hesitation in recommending it as a valuable
preparation, to be used externally on man or beast.

Rheumatism.—This is to certify that my wile was af
flicted with severe chronic Rheumatism ; site had suffered
for months with the most excruciating pains ; she had
tried Rheumatic Compounds, Reliefs and almost every
thing recommended for this dreadful disease. None of
them relieved her pains in the least. She used a fifty cent
bottle of Mustang Liniment, and it cured her entirely; she
is now perfectly well, and recommends all of her friends
to use the Mustang Liniment.
