Death of a South Carolina Planter.

Kfi.-ih Wilburns, a wealthy planter from Barnesville,

slaves, for the purpose of freeing them. He tel! dead as

them all free, and appropriated, for their use, an estate.

Virginia Election.
Partial returns have been received by the Richmond
papers. They are so very imperfect that we can form
no very definite opinion as to the result of the contest.
V\ ise is running a little in the rear of Johnson, who
beat Summers for Governor in 1851, 8,100 votes, and
we have no doubt of his election.
Richmond City.——Wise 1166; Flournoy 2146.
Summers majority its 1851 was but the total vote
was only 2674. Wise's vote is 250 higher than John
son’s in 1851.
Henrico. —Flournoy’s majority is about 225. This
is a large Know Nothing gain.
j. Chesterfield. —Wise’s majority is conceded to be
about 450. In the contest of 1851, Johnson’s majority
was 413,
Petersburg. —Wise’s majority is 83.
Campbell. —Flournoy’s majority about 375.
News good from Bedford and Amherst.
Prince George.*— Wise’s majority about 250.*
Johnson’s majority in 1851 was 162.

following reported majorities for Wise:
Dinwiddie, 100; Prince Eiward, 77; Greenville,
150 ; Prince George, 250.
We have imperfect returns from several ether Coun
ties.
The city and cOahty of Alexandria, says the Wash
ington Union , give 494 majorily for Flournoy, [Eighty*
eight votes for Wise were thrown out, but which ulti
mately will have to be received. Before tho election,
the know nothings bcastingly predicted that they would
carry Alexandria by upwards of seven hundred ma
jnrity ]
The city of Richmond gives 883 majority for Flournoy.

A Salute. —There was much rejoicing in Boston among
the abolitionists upon the passage of the personal liberty
bill over the veto. Thirty two guns were tired upon the
common on ‘Tuesday afternoon in honor of the triumph—
thiity-ooe for the States and one for Kansas.
A F rt Sc*itt, in Kansas Territory, with all
the fixtures, was sold lately ioi $5,(0;). It cost the United
States government, iKt long since, ibe handsome amount
of $175,000.
Thus Generosity.—The Marietta (Ohio) Advocate says
that many farmers in that section have refu-ed to sell their
corn to speculators at $1 40, and have cbo-en to divide it
among their poorer neighbors at $1 per bushel. Such be
nevolence deserves to be recorded.

doubt, aie not aware that the famous F ora McDonald, the
deliverer cf I rince Charles Stuart, the Pretender, emigrat and

Journal of Commerce , wriiting from Fayeitcville, N. U ,
alter giving a description of that place, says:
‘The spot derives interest from its being once the residence
of the famous Flora M Donald, who has figured as a he

Englch—the Fietener having sought concealment among
the Highlands of Scotland, and after being hunted from
“mountain to deli, from crag to cavern,” wiih a price set
upon his head, finally etcaptd with Flora, in the guise of a
writing maid. Alter the flight oi’ the Prince to Fiance,
Flora Was arrested and tried for high treason. Her youth
and chivalrie daring created feeling in her behalf, md ob
a tained for her pardon. She is said, by John-on, to have
