Emigrations to the Wellern Continent from the northern parts of Ireland, and from the Highlands of Scotland, are con tinued to an extent fo alarming as to call for the immediate confiderationof the government. Upwards of 1,800 perlons have failed from Londonderry, Belfaft, &c. for America, fince the beginning of June, and Fill greater numbers are preparing to follow as loon as they can provide means for their trans portation. A Scotch Journal which we received yefierday, contains the following article : “ On Satur day three veffcls failed from Fort William with emigrants for America. It is lamentable to think, there are no lefs than twelve Flips engaged for the Welt Highlands, which muft carry off fourteen or fifteen hun dred of thofe deluded'wretches from their name country. — Before they had been three hours at fea, feme of the poor crea tures on Saturday came and afked one of the Bailors if the land they law America, which fhews what an idea they have of their voyage. The emperor of Morocco had declared war againft the United States, and ordered away* our conful; but by a later ac count it appears, that he had changed his mind, and the con ful had returned to his functions. Sortie American veflels have been taken by Tripolitan cor* fairs, although Tripoli is block aded by our frigates. The prizes are carried to Algiers i and from the infolcnce of the dey of that regency it is appre hended he will demand more tribute of us or declare war,—* A French fquadron failed front Toulon againft Funis, to pro-* ceed from thence to Algiers. The harvtftof wheat in Eng land this year is great, and the crop and vintage in Germany promife abundance. A DUEL was fought a Hiorfi diftance from Newbem, n. c* on Sunday evening the 4th Sep tember, between Richard DohPs Spaight, Elq. formerly Governor of North-Carolina, and John Stanley, Efq Senator tor the diftndt of Newbern.
