Patterson, from Texas, was in attendance, and in 'connection with his brother, Rev. A. L. Patterson, and Rev. D. G. Phillips, D. D., Pastor of the church, the meeting was conducted, and resulted, we trust, in much good. Several persons joined the church, among tho'm, Mr! Chalmers Fleming. The Sacramental scene was deeply im pressive, and one could scarcely wit ness it, much less participate, without feeling a solemn sacrcdness, an awe-in spiring reverence as though in the very presence of the Messiah, jyith the whole sanctuary pervaded by his glory and Ins grace; and when anthems of inspir ed praise welled up in the House of God, and the multitude moved ou to the feast., of the Lord’s Supper, the very gat6s of Heaven seemed lifted up, and the bright ness of a Saviour’s love to stream in op the assembly of worshippers. Large stock of Boots and Shoes at M. ZACUARIAS & CO. Cotton Picking. —Mr. I. W. Grego ry says a colored woman with a child eight years old picked for him one day this week 323 pounds of cotton. This we consider very fine picking, indeed the best we have heard of this season, for cotton now is not very thick anti heavy as it was the first of the season. The Good Templar’s Supper.— On lust Friday night the Good Templars gave a supper that was a decided suc cess in very sense of the word. The ob ject was to procure money for the pur pose of decorating their Hall, and to buy a chandelier. The number present was very encouraging, consisting of the young and middle-aged, married and single, boys and girls, the gallant bean and the blooming belle. What a happy throng it was, and how delight and mirth made everything, and every one seem far removed from melancliolly, and fill ed the apartment with an atmosphere of convivial joy that we vrill not attempt to portray. Oysters, ice cream, cake, and apples were the' eddibles. Just here we will sthte that there is no accounting for how Ujany 'plates of oysters some young men can get Qn the outside of. Up to date we have heard of no serious damage resulting to any one. The ice cream stand was presided over by two beautiful young ladies, Miss Nellie Pat terson and Miss Mattie llostick.. Ob, the cunning preatures ! How could the young gentlemen keep from purchas ing from such fair dispenters, as long as they had it red? We trembled for their safety, too, for they were very fond of the mixture themselves, and stuck to it with soldier-like 'fidelity, responding with marked promptness to every solic ited offer. Just here' we will state that itis likely these young ladies will be coldly sweet Tor the next indefinite num ber of monthb. 1 ” The Post Office was a gem in its way, but a brighter gem was Post Mistress. The fair one so full of smiles who held this enviable position \yas Miss Clare Roberson. And again ! Who could refuse to go and get the bil let deaux, dealt ont by "such an one; when they were only a nickel apiece, and oh, sncli precious little missives the most of them were, with more sweeten ing in them than a large-sized ginger oake would hold' .Soon, partners for 'a cotillion were called, and the -ligSi fart tastic toe kept measure with rare music till small and the children grew sleepy. ‘ The evening was an ex ceedingly pleasant one to all who attend ed, and fully confirmed us id the opin. ion that if such a tiling were to occur again, and someone Mas to profffer to pay our expenses,- that wA would go ogam* - ••'**• Linen Hankerchiefs at' 10 cents at M.’ ZACH ARIAS A- CO. 1 :t'”‘ —-— COTTON MARKET. The young men are great Hunters, and it in gbt be said with equal truth of some of the girls, though not rivals of the mighty Nimrod.
