Louisville Brass Band. Sick.—Mrs. M. H. Hopkins has been quite sick with diptherea. We trust she will soon be restored to health ag'ain. V e regret to learn of the sickness of Mr. John Rollins and Mr. John Pen row. New Bethany.—We understand there was an attempt to break open a store at New Bethany the other night. It was thought a white man and negro were in concert in the mean scheme, an 1 it is to be hoped that they will be ar rested and dealt witli summarily. Look Oft. —Dr. J. TV. Cooley is tobe in this place on next week. All who wish any work done in his line of busi ness will find him at his stopping place, Mrs Millers boarding house. lie is a good Dentist, as all who have tried him know. Persons who have decayed teeth will do well to give him a call. Dr. Irwin.— lt is rumored with some degree of authority that Dr. Irwin of Augfista will visit this place soon to de liver a sermon on temperance. The sermon t at the Grand at its meeting in Gainesville, was pro nounced by those that heard it to have been a very grand and superior effort. Prof. Bond is in Louisville, and >vill astound tho natives to-day by won derful and prodigoiis feats on tiie aver age wire. Promising and PnyuuAß. —On our Tv ay from Bartow the other day, via Phieftnf, we saw some fields'of cotton, beautifully white that had been picked before, and some better corn orops than we thought there was in the county, and jV. number of people sowing, small grain, ac., and we 'saw a peculiar Gin House." It was set on wheels and moves by tram road to the press 200 yards lienee. Earthquake.— On Monday night scvefal of our citizens, among them Or, E. 11. W. Hunter heard and felt the shock of an earthquake. Windows were heard to rattle and the earth for a very short time experienced a tremor that we never feel only when a phenomena of tills kind takes place. All are familiar with tiia economy of this state of affairs we presume without our entering into a discussion of the matters to say nothing of what we consider the low estimate placed upon the services of the Judge, who presides with so much dignity, and general satisfaction to the citizens gen erally." Have You Paid Up.—Our readers will remember that we published a short notice some time ago stating that we would revise our Subscription hook on th# Ist of November and strike from it tl\e names of every subscriber who had not paid up for his paper. At the re quest of many of our patrons we shall postpone the revision until after Court week, and, without anv farther postpone ment, we shall certainly make the re vision on the 20th DAY of NOVEM BER 1875, and erase every mme who are in arrears for subscription. We shall adhere strictly to the msJi in advance sys tem in future and will not, under any consideration, enter any name upon our books until the money is paid. tf. Brass Band Cake Presextaion.— The other night the Band at the bouse of Mr. G. 11. Harrell on the occasion of a cake cutting. It was our fortune to be an invited guests and to enjoy the. hearty sobial welcome of ‘mine’ . host, and the exhilirating company of the y.ouDg men who compose the Band, but, a greater pleasure awaited us for with the others, we ate of the delicious cake, and drank health and long life in bwnpers of clear cold water to one of the most es teemed ladies pf Louisville, who in her , kinduess, presented the cake to the Band as a slight appreciation of their merits. They extend, one and all of them, hearty thanks for such consider ation. —-—_—-p, -■ Death.—lt is with pain that we an ni#mcp the death on hist Friday of Mr. J.’L. Roberts of this place, ’He was an estimable citizen, kind and affection ate in his famjly, a staunch gopd tem plar, and a true, honest hearted man. His habits were those of industry and frugality,. uiql lie was peaceable and law abiding. We extend our sympathies to the bereaved family. Ho. was buried by tllp Masons and Template with the ceremonies of cacti order, making the scene‘at once sad ‘and strikingly im pressive. Also-; Mr. J*s. Daniels died on the same day the house o£ D. J. Alex ander of consumption contfacte'd from exposure, it is thought, by having been in water in the river swamp at night, ’on one occasion. He was quite a young man and had the' promise Of many days before him, but death is no re specter of persous. TRIBUTE OF RESPECT. Whereas, The messenger of death. Under the inexorable law of the Supreme Being, has summoned our Brother,John L. Roberts, (L. D.) froip this earth home to the spiritland ; be it Resolved, That we tender our heart felt sympathy to the lonely widow, who has met with a loss irreparable, and to Jps bereaved family, who must submit with becoming fortitude to this terrible blow, which has been inflicted by Xhe God who gives and has the right to take away. Resolved, 2. That we deeply regret his loss from our body, not only in his official capacity as Lodge Deputy ; but on account of his unflinching adherance to the prineiples of our Order together with the round expression of his views which carried weight with them in all our deliberations. Resolved, 3. That the Order wear. the usual badge of mourning for thirty days. Resolved, 4. Ruperts. ) OBITUA R y. Died in Louisville, Jefferson Cos, Ga, on the 28th day of Oct, 1875, John L. Rorerts, after a short illness of only one week. 11c was born in Orangeburg, Cq, Sp. Ca, on the 2d of Sept, 1820, having entered upon his 56th year. He was a mason and Good Templar, bqth of which he was an honor to. Asa work man, none excelled him ; as a citizen, no one surpassed hint in honesty and integrity of purpose: ag?a husband and father, kind and just; as a friend, true to the last. How can we but mourn the loss of one possessed of so rare a combination of virtues. Can we but hope that a kind and merciful God has received the spir it which' has left its form of flesh and blood, and will place it in realms where want, sorrow and suffering enter not. A Friend.
