JUSTICE AND TRUTH.
IVe are about to speak of the gross
violation of a town law, and an open
beael, of its ordinances and its order.
So far as our pu-pose goes , it matters
not who the violator was, how violated,
of what particular age or color, or
anything about lus antecedents.
It has nothing to do with the argu
ment, who the Mar-hail was, what ui.-
position as a man, what his previous
charafi ar or his present status. No
man who has just pride in his bosom
which prompts him to love order and
decency cau see the authority of a
lowa set at deli oice, its laws trampled
upon wit.l ruthless violence, and a
bdd ciial.enge, spiced with oaths to
the whole charted corporation, am! yet
that challenge remain unaccepted, the
authority so defied and spit u ion, re
main supbie, ami the o tier and
harmony o. t o place violated without
the ribuire oi arresi, Lite security of
bond, or the visitation of deserved
punishment. Re say no mail who has
any regard lor himself as a citiz in and a
man, can witness sucu things wituont
humiliation.
On Saturday night la.-t a young man
cursed out the town, cursed out the
Marshall, defied authority, said openly
that he had a pistol in his hand and
that tie cared nothing for the town, and
yet left town unmolested. YVe will
say in justice to tne oommissir jierathat
none ol them were present. N groes
and other .men stood around and said
after th.s occurrence the Marshall need
not try to arrest them . Mo fur us we
kn iw, or heard, noposae was summoned
and tne purty cursed till he was tired
and then went home. We hope such a
thing will never occur in our town
aga.u.
