the conducl of Mr. Jack foil, not j

A gentleman who arrived at this ,
port yefterday, from Nafl’au,
Havanha, informs u3, that before be
left the former place he read in an
Englifh paper, the fp- ech of the king
at the opening of parliament in Jan
uary, in which his Britannic majefty

Alicant. A gentleman who con
verted with captain Leach a few
minutes, derived from him the
following information ;—That
the French were within 6 leagues
of Alicant, in two divifions,
(40,000 in the whole) one divi
(ion deflined to Alicant, and
were exprtted in every day ; the
other to Valencia.—That the in
habitants were with all halte
fending their plate and other
valuables to Gibraltar & Cadiz,
judging them to be the only pla
ces of refuge and fafety—and
were determined to fubmit to the
French w r hen they came, with
out refinance. The Junta re
mained at Seville.
