Ho is an old an experienced dealer and manufacturer, having been established in his business since 1850. We cheer fully recommend him to the confi dence of our people, and trust that he may receive a liberal share of their patronage. See his card elsewhere in this paper. A LL OF De. Lin ton, the proprietor of this popular house of entertainment has placed us under obligations to him for courte sies and attention which we received whilst attending the hemp-pulling in that town last week. He fed us well and made us happy, and now we say to our Quitman friends, “AVhen you go to Thomnsville, stop at tlie Almost End House.” DECORATION DAY. To cover the graves of* those who fell on the battle field fighting in de fence of onr ‘‘altars and firesides” is a beautiful custom; and on this lovely morning, as tender, loving hands lay j dewy wreaths and garlands of earth’s ! sweetest flowers upon the soldiers’ j graves, may the spirit of love and charity bo diffused with the fragrant incense that is wafted on tho lnprning breeze. Decorate the graves then, ye women of the South; in memory of the boy-soldier, in honor of the cause that he served, and the life he yielded i for that cause. Fur the living - -those who have fought with honest heart ill | a beaten cause —they can pluck glo ries of their own from the ruin, and, setting them against their bitterness as a balance, let the past die gently in their breasts. .Spread the choicest flowers above the graves; for though the names of many whose forms are blended with kindred earth are no longer remembered, still through their influence they live, and in the growth of our cities and in the cul- ; ture of our fields, which represent; the advancement of the South, they live on, who died for us, and will do i so forever. To our martyred dead we owe a great debt, and in no better way can we pay it than during Ibis one day to linger beside their graves, bedeck them with garlands, and show to our selves and the world that wc look oil them as of tho immortals; that we j would deem ourselves a degraded peo- ] pie should we refuse to ornament their last resting place with flowers,! or nourish them with our tears, and that wo would be wanting in charity should wo not yield them at Irani one sigh for the banner that is furled forever. “On fame’s eternal camping ground Their silent tents are spread, Wliile glory guards with solemn round The bivouac of the dead.’’ t. and. n. VLL OUR GOODS are marked down _ cheap. Don't believe what is told you by other merchants and interested parties, but call and see for yourselves how well you can dS at H utton's New Yokk Stoke. Our Walking-slick Recovered. Tlie fair damsels with whom we had the brief but pleasant ride in tlie ox cart were innocent of purloining our cane. Sure enough, we had dropped it in the road, but luckily for us a lady friend of ours whom we had seen ar rayed in her beautiful bridal robes and giving her heart and hand to the fortunate man who stood l>vher side about two weeks before, happened to pass that way, and seeing our stick, took cave of i* and r*tun>dit to us. j Many thanks, Mrs. Earn May ho who has so recently* pledged himself to love and clieerish you, be ever true | and faithful to tlie delightful self-im- i posed duty, and may you find him a surer and more constant support j through all the vicissitudes of life than I our beautiful walking-stick has been to us. W. E. Barnes. AY o are under obligations to the | above named gentleman for engrav ing the initials of our name upon a number of articles, free of charge. I AVe knew that Air. Barnes was a j watch-maker and repairer, and that • he kept a choice lot of silver-ware, j jewelry, sewing machine needles for all kinds of machines, Ac., but wo were j not aware until recently that he had added to his accomplishments that of engraving also. AVe can assure those who may have silver ware upon which they* wish their names engraved that j they can have the job well executed by applying to Air. Barnes. Messrs. Editors: —Please permit me to return my thanks through the col umns of the Reporter, to Air. M. S. Mclntosh, proprietor of the AVillow Oak House, at Homervillc, Ga., and his excellent lady, for the hospitality and kindness of which I was the re cipient, whilst attending Clinch .Su perior Court last week. I can cheer fully reccommend my friends and ac quaintances to stop at this house whenever they visit Homerville, and assure them that they will be well cared for and hospitably entertained. J. S. Any man in tho Radical party is a j better man than Grant, in our judg- j j ment. All of them doubtless have the same will to injure the Soutli that. he lias, but not one tho same power. Therein lies the difference. They concoct tlie deviltry but lie legalizes and makes it operative. AVhen has, Grant ever refused to give his sanc tion to any of the crimes peipetrated against the South under the guise of J Federal laws ? Name one if you can. .
