my arrival at this place, informing me of my
nomination as the candidate of the Const i'u-
tional Union Party to represent the fifili
Congressional district in tho next Congiess
of the United Stater, and asking my accept
ance of the same. •
1 feel profoundly grateful to tho Conven
tion for this manifestation of their confidence,
nnd I nssure you and the Convention, whose
organ you are, tha< 1 should not do justice to
my own feelings, nnd to the cause wo nrn
mutually ongaged in defending, were 1 to de
cline the honor tendered me. I accept,
therefore, the nomination, with the assur
ance that I will to the utmost of my ab.lily,
support nnd delend the great conservative
principles of the Union party as derelopedjiy

cember last, 1 shall not attempt at this time,
a discussion of the various questions involv
ed in the action of that Convention, hut
will content myself by ropeating that i will
give to each and all llie-o measures my ar
dent support. 1 have ever felt proud that 1
was n Georgian, but more especially do I
honor and reverence her since her oction in
that Convention. It was the enevinble pri
vilege of Georgin, when this great confeder
acy of Mates was shaken from centre to cir
cumference in ennsequenre of the dangers
crowing out of tho agitation of tho question
Slavery nnd the unsettled state of the public
m'nd relative to the adjustment measures en
acted by Congress, first to speak out upon
this question. The eyes of the great body
of the American people were entertained up
on Georgia in “hopeful reliance" upon her
patriotism, whilst mnny wore endeavoring to
rush the ship of State into the vortex of dis
solution. It was under such circumstances
the Convention met. Never had the Slate
upon any former occasion, presented such an
array of talent nnd patriotism ns upon fills.—
They come together not as gladiator meeting
gladiator upon the arena, but ns patriots
who loved their country het'er than party.
Her action was ns the pouring of oil upon
thetronhled wu'ers, and was characterized
by “Wisdom , Justice and Moderation.”—

ots of tho country. Scarcely any person nt
the adjournment of that Convention, Imd he
been told that a formidable parly would be
organized nvainst the noble nnd praise
worthy position it assumed would have for n
moment believed it. But it is nevertheless
true, tlmt the flag of Disunion lias again boon
unfurled to the breeze, nnd the patriots of the
country are c tiled upon to buckle on their
armor in the defence of the Union.

the rescue of the Union, and under the broad
stripes and brilliant stars of the American
flag shall plant myself to resist, to tho ut
most of my feeble abilities, the doctrines of
disuaion and secession.
'Gentlemen, 1 contemplate if not providen
tially hindered, to canvass the district, and
by the aid of the friends of tho Uuion, hope
to he able successfully to vindicate the groat
conservative principles of the Union party;
and should my nomination be ratified by the
people, every obligation imposed on me by
the Constitution of the United States, and
all the luws passed in strict conformity to
that instrument, shall be faithfully curried
out.

on the subject of the “Bluumor costume,"—
the new style of dress some of the Indies at
the North have recently adopted—and hero
they are;

Partington, when a friend spoke to her about

He specially recommended it in Liver Complaint.
Dyspepsia. Debility Virtigo, Acidity of the Stom
