STRANGE PEELINGS.
NEAR. yonder cot upon the Moor,
Whose grey smoke winds in many a curl—
Knitting beside the cottage door,
I met this morn t lovely gin.
With many a tr.oioth damsel oft,
I've rqnamler’d fooliflily ir.7 time,
Play’d with her har.da and cheeks so foft,
Or hitch'd them up in many a thyme.
But when T turn'd s o gO a wary,
My bosom felt no tickling pain.
Ant! scarcely did l heat them fay,,
l"d thank you, Sir to come again.
But when I saw the lass fj fiir,
Her floating eyes so blue and round,
Its luftre I could no more bear,
But b a Aiful look'd upon the ground.
My jealous pride then'tonk alarm,
Pace her, it wliifper'd o'er and o'er—
Look up, the cannot d<> dice harm,
Diet'd thou ne’er fee 1 girl before f
Rous'd'from the dream, 1 rais'd my hat,
And thought feme civil th'V.g to far 1
i. look’d—my heart Want p;tipaf,
And glad was I to get away.
Yet though I ‘mim'd from her fight,
Ream wherefoe'er my footfteps will,
That ftiU blue eye, that face so bright,
Will haunt me like a fpedlre Jtili.
